Oof, I spent a good half of today drawing the in-betweens and finishing my trailer. It's only a couple of seconds long but I'm happy with how the animation turned out. ^_^ (Yes, I posted it immediately. Sorry, I was excited.) The compression did it no favors. I swear the colors are better irl.

Fuzzy eyebrows rose on Zorrik’s face. “My apologies, I meant no offense. A Ferruthan minstrel in Escala is such a curiosity,” he said. “But you say Bizal has sponsored an entire troupe? I would not have thought him a music lover.”
With a cautious smile, Malgrim said, “I despair that my employer is actually tone-deaf.”
“Now that sounds more like the Archduke I know. More interested in the rules of law than the subtleties of art.” Zorrik sighed. “Which is why I am surprised he hasn’t submitted a roster of your group to my office. Such a large number of foreigners should be registered with my department so that they can be observed by my demon-hunters.”
Malgrim blinked. “Demon-hunters?”
No wonder Grath had run from this man. Zorrik was far more dangerous than a simple teacher if he could command demon-hunters. Would Malgrim even understand the risks of an Ordeal if one of his minstrels was accused of magery? Would Bizal protect his investment by shielding the caravan?
“Archduke Bizal has been preoccupied with the Baron’s Moot, as a candidate for the crown,” Kahyla said. “If you brought your concerns to him directly, he could provide assurances.”
Malgrim frowned at this deflection to his employer. Zorrik craned his neck, searching through the crowd.

And some people, if you're trying to make a balanced, varied cast of folks you find out in the world, think so alien to you or have such intensely different values, norms, or culture that it's difficult to get inside their head. Doubly so if you're trying to portray them sympathetically.

#WeeknightWriters I'd have to say that making them all unique while balancing what I hope readers feel about them can be a delicate challenge. Some people just kinda suck, but they're useful or their goals are noble. Some people are great personality-wise but make the most frustrating decisions.

#WeeknightWriters I love all of it. No, actually. I like knowing who my little Tamagotchis are. Maybe I can say that I love developing the little details & bonds between them, figuring out who their social networks are, because that drastically shapes plot complications more often than not.

#WeeknightWriters How they fit into their world, mostly. If the story's a spy novel, who's the spy? What are they like & how did they get here? If it's a heist, mystery or adventure, who are the people called to these tasks? From there, the roots flow outward, tying into hobbies, ideals, & family.
