Some people benefit from it, but does anyone making content actually enjoy the “subscribe to me for xyz” system? It creates a transactional relationship out of what should be a supportive one, puts obligations on creators that don’t scale, segments viewership, and forces you to compete with peers.

Reposting this with some context! If you login to slowclap you’ll see a section called “goals” it lists your current goal, which is generated based on how much applause you’ve received this month. Click “share” paste the link here (it will look something like below) Post and your goal will be met!

This is a great deal and a great way to move over to the #indieweb! Support a dev that isn’t making vibecoded slop! Build your own audience! Laugh a little every time you realize you’re building your site with a tool called “bimbo” 💪

Today's update to slowclap is a small semi-requested addition, which is a way to directly support the platform itself. This was already technically possible by supporting my writing account, but it was roundabout and I would prefer people to use that to support my writing directly.

I do want to stress that these features are in beta, I’m expecting some bugs and already have some stuff I’m planning to tweak and add. (Like making it more clear that the link was copied when you hit share) Please let me know if anything doesn’t seem to work right for you.

010

👏 slowclap @slowclap.bsky.social · 16/09/2026

Lastly.. sharing! Next to each of your events and goals there’s now a share button. Click it and a link will be copied to your clipboard that routes people where they’d need to go to applaud that person as well. No more diving through settings for your applause page.

121

👏 slowclap @slowclap.bsky.social · 16/09/2026

Next up.. goals! Goals are a lot of things. They’re challenges to you and your community. They’re a decentralized, no API way of replacing (and improving on) paywalls and they’re fun! Here’s how they work

121

👏 slowclap @slowclap.bsky.social · 16/09/2026

First up events. I’ve completely replaced the old (utilitarian) history view of applause sent and received with a unified timeline that dynamically batches all applause events you’ve been involved in. someone applauded you? It’s there you applauded someone else? also there got a kickback? Yep!

121

👏 slowclap @slowclap.bsky.social · 16/09/2026

Today’s update to slowclap is HUGE. It might not feel huge to all of you but trust me it was a massive undertaking, it’s essentially three separate features all driven by the same unified system: ✨ events 🎉 goals 🤝 sharing I’ll handle each in its own thread!

@iznaut.com hey I know it was a little while ago that you were talking about Linux, but I saw this article today (on the Fediverse) that does a pretty good job summarizing (and linking to) a lot of the ongoing problematic stuff in the FOSS community. (Not that you’d use Omarchy for other reasons)

Getting concerned about this slowclap thing… There’s a cancel button on the settings page and it just… works? There’s no “are you sure?” prompt? No weird attempts to trick me into staying subscribed? It lets me keep using everything until the end of the month? WTF… where are the dark patterns?

Today's design philosophy 🧵 is about: subscriptions and auto-allocation. But in order to talk about this I need to talk about something everyone in the design business understands but I haven't really seen people talk about: manipulation.
