The concept of ‘stranded assets’ has become central to analysis of the climate crisis. Rapid decarbonisation will result in the mass devaluation of a whole host of fossil-fuel-related investments. But where did the language of stranding come from, and how has its meaning changed over time?

So important from @kjephd.bsky.social. Political scientists ignore the critical importance of how meaning is constructed & so our work on climate suffers. Economic sociologists are much better on this, see @pgolka.bsky.social @danieldrisc.com @vapunkt.bsky.social & others (chime in, folks!). 1/2
