I’m glad time has vindicated Sebulba. Everyone was so cruel to him because he “tried to kill a child” during the Boonta Eve Classic even though he was literally Darth Vader

My theory has always been that tradwife was never really a "movement," it was a content genre, or really, a genre of softcore porn

Hello computer. Make the game set in Millport. Not Millport now but Millport when I was about 16 in pixel-perfect detail. Some day that, some summer, some laugh...just...tonnes of pals and we'd just all kick about i dont want to be here anymore. i dont want to be here. i want to be there.

i wish i knew what to do about it! i've tried to believe that i could just do my own thinking and try to live a worthwhile life encouraging others do theirs, but it is hard to make a living that way

I’m tired, ya’ll. We’re really about to do this whole thing again aren’t we? We’re really about to get sold another story aren’t we? This is seriously some hauntology, capitalist realism level stuff: “It is easier to envision the end of the world than the end of the literacy wars.” 🫠

lol yeah! the argument is that "technocracy undermined our natural, evolutionary inclinations to stay in our own little enclaves, and we should trade the value of 'hard work' for 'relational life' in order to have more babies"

Okay I've seen at least 2 posts today that describe Jim Bakker as "having an affair with his secretary" or "getting caught banging his secretary" and just...no. He got caught paying her off because he and another preacher *violently raped her*. That isn't an affair, or a simple "sex scandal".

Why is Education Reform discourse so allergic to the idea of "trade offs"????? "Whole language" and "project-based learning" are classroom management strategies and they visibly work in lots of situations. RCTs can give you information, but the "science of learning" is a complicated field

Can't stop thinking about this because I just CANNOT with Direct Instruction again. As anyone who has tried to directly instruct kids knows, it doesn't work if they DON'T OR CAN'T LISTEN, which is why elementary teachers went big on non-cognitive skills before zombie DI came back

The fantasy among white people that the key to changing other white people's minds is presenting the right set of facts is such a problem, I struggled with it earlier in my career and found, as others before and after have, that the threshold for persuasion moves to undermine the facts

On this note, the capture of public education by corporate interests brings the misery and drudgery of the workplace into schools to a further extent, and it shows up in a lot of facially neutral practices (bell-to-bell instruction, short lunch breaks, relentless emphasis on quantifiable growth).

Literally, the school with a planetarium and a Mandarin program where the kids seemed miserable broke something in me

Above all else, I think this is kinda why I left the classroom. I interviewed at good schools and private schools and was kinda dismayed by what I saw. Education is important, but it's just not the most important thing in determining if a kid is going to be fulfilled and satisfied in the future

Maybe I will change my opinion about this in the future! But it is so corrosive to the places people leave behind and the ones where they move. Schools are not the be-all and end-all of a quality community, you should have other things bringing you to and keeping you in your home

Erin Vanderhoof @vanderhoofy.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Do not, for God's sake, move somewhere for the schools

My mom's advice on this is good—send your kid to the best school that is convenient for your family and your lifestyle, don't worry about it too much beyond that, check in annually about the environment, and cut bait if it isn't working. Plan on supplementing/enriching their education regardless

Erin Vanderhoof @vanderhoofy.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Sending a kid to a chaotic school can be good for them in the long run—like, I bet Najya is an excellent, well-regulated kid who really understands the world. Better than sending them to schools with a suicide cluster! But your cash won't fix the school and teachers are trying to prevent violence

this is the closest to my own experience i have seen in the large number of responses to Nikole Hannah-Jones I've read fittoteach.substack.com/p/an-inner-c...

An Inner-City Teacher’s Response to Nikole Hannah-Jones’s NYT Article
She wrote a brave article... but was unfair to the teachers behind her daughter’s hindered education.
