Living here on this absolute jewel of a planet. Thank you First Nations. PhD in sustainability, equity & health. Former policy adviser ALP & Greens. Seriously #Difficult woman, kicked out of patriarchal orgs, betrayed by some timid women, but still here!

It’s disappointing that the Greens have once again given short shrift to a female leader. Larissa Waters wouldn’t have been my pick, but if they wanted a ‘stronger’ style leader, I think Faruqi or Hanson-Young would be fine. Like Labor, they revert to patriarchal stereotypes under pressure #AusPol

Climate scientists are having debates on Bluesky about how we respond to overshoot and how best to get back to 1.5C or less. in spite of differences, it’s clear rapid reductions in methane need to be part of this So I ask all climate activists to stop treating veganism as ‘out there’ or ‘foolish’.

My experience with Greens here is they have a habit of treating people badly and then finding it impossible to acknowledge or resolve This spreads ripples of distrust into the community. In my case I’ve tried repeatedly to resolve this, but the party seems sadly unable to do so

i don’t know why women continue to let men run the world. Is it fear, or some kind of collective delusion (not involving all women, but a significant number), or a feeling that it can’t be changed so may as well just put up with it?

I think in Victoria (Australia) we were in a situation like this about 20 years ago. Many homes didn’t have AC and people were concerned that putting AC into all homes would lead to more energy use, more FF use, more emissions, worse climate change. That has now changed. Why?

Things aren't great for the climate right now, but I don't think most people realize how dire it was 20 years ago, when CO₂ emissions were consistent with the IPCC's worst-case scenario. www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...
A line graph titled "CO2 Emissions (GtC/y)" tracks carbon dioxide emissions from 1990 to 2010 against various stabilization targets and IPCC SRES climate scenarios. The vertical axis ranges from 5 to 10 gigatons of carbon per year (GtC/y), and the horizontal axis shows the years. Two black lines with markers represent actual emissions data: a solid black circle line for CDIAC data (extending to 2005 at nearly 8 GtC/y) and an open circle line for EIA data (extending to 2004). Multiple colored lines represent different emission scenarios branching out from around the year 2000. Dashed lines represent stabilization targets, with a green dashed line for 450 ppm stabilization and a blue dashed line for 650 ppm stabilization, both projecting lower emissions by 2010 (around 7.6 GtC/y) compared to the actual data trend. Solid colored lines project higher emissions, labeled as A1FI (red, highest at over 9 GtC/y by 2010), A1B (orange), A2 (cyan), B1 (dark blue), A1T (bright green), and B2 (gray, lowest solid line at roughly 8.1 GtC/y by 2010). The actual emissions lines track closely with or slightly exceed the highest-emissions scenario (A1FI) between 2003 and 2005.
