random encounters in jrpgs are like any design choice, they aren't inherently good or bad. lufia 2 is undeniably a better game than lufia 1 and that's in part because they mostly abandoned random encounter design that didn't work with the first game.

It's really been a consistent disaster; I thought the acquisition of Blizzard at the time was a boon because it got us out from under the thumb of Kotick but it's been clear since then that Microsoft will just gut everything they acquire.

Hooked up my dreamcast I pulled out from my parents place when I went to visit them a week ago. It's still just as magical as I remember, even when hooked up via composite to my upscaler the games look amazing.
