“Loving every conversation (Ms Marple is a triumph), the setting, the line of characters (-Sylvia), the connections between them, motives, 1st person narrations. However the accent on Sylvia is offensive, no American says "Baby"like that. Do Brits think we have speech impairments? I listen to Brit mysteries daily and this is the worst American accent. I didn’t really understand my Dad’s version of happiness & success when I was younger. You grow up in a world defined by MORE, ambitions & career paths & ownership & status & wealth. You’re told working minimarts & renting = failure. I came to realize he was the most successful person I knew.

My Dad worked at urban markets his whole life. No career ambitions, he just liked the energy & routine working the sole register at a little shop. He has a rent freeze apartment he lived in til the day he died. Never wanted more. He found success & stopped there. In his era you could still do that.

The whole boomer argument against raising minimum wage I’ve heard my whole life is “working fast food or groceries is a starter job for kids.” Why? If someone is content bagging groceries, they should be able to just do that & enjoy their life. But the system doesn’t allow for opting out of “‘more.”

Again, much of Pete Hegseth’s deal is the only skill his job demanded for a long time was keeping a trim figure to be conventionally pretty for stay-at-home moms watching daytime tv. His job was “be pretty,” but he knows that’s a girl job, so he’s deeply insecure and is trying to make it a boy job.
