I wanted to take this time to share my appreciation for the great Maddie Blaustein, yesterday was her Birthday and she would've turned 66. If you didn't know, Maddie Blaustein was a intersex trans voice actress and she's best remembered as the voice of Meowth In Pokémon. (4Kids) 🏳️‍⚧️🧵 #maddieblaustein

I didn't miss the point at all. This is another "What are we, foreigners?!" response, when the simple fact is we're the bad guys and have been for a long, long time. Maybe if we start from the position that we were already monstrous, we could deal with the situation realistically.

Well folks it happened: a U.S. district court has ruled that Americans no longer have to go through the ATF and register to acquire short-barreled rifles, shotguns or suppressors. This is a massive change to gun laws in this country and also...not likely to change much. I'll explain.
Although the district court’s injunction applies only to plaintiffs and certain other specified
persons, the Department has determined to exercise its enforcement discretion to create greater
uniformity, consistent with the Attorney General’s statement today. Consequently, effective
October 9, 2026, ATF will no longer require individuals to seek ATF approval under the NFA
before making or transferring short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns, silencers, and “any
other weapon[s]” as defined in 26 U.S.C. § 5845(e). ATF will also no longer require such items
to be registered in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record. These policies apply
uniformly to anyone otherwise subject to these requirements, not just to the plaintiffs in the
litigation

From a review of the social reckoning: “Then there are the baffling dialogue choices Sorkin forces into Madison’s mouth. At one point, Frances visits reporter Jeff Horwitz’s apartment to drop off leaked documents and catches a pickup basketball game on television. Giannis Antetokounmpo pumps his fist after hitting a shot, and she launches into a painful diatribe: “Oh, why is this man happy? Just because he hit a ball in the air, just because he hit the sports ball to get a couple of points? How are people happy with this?” I cannot describe how hard my eyeballs rolled into the back of my head. It’s the work of somebody completely out of touch with how real people speak.”

I reanalyzed the CDC data behind the LGB “free fall” headline. It rests on a change in bisexual identification among one grade, in one wave, of one survey. Gay or lesbian identification did not change significantly. Calling it a "free fall" is sensational and just gives bad actors talking points.
Six small line charts showing the percent of U.S. high school students choosing each sexual identity response option by grade (9th to 12th), 2015 to 2025, with 95% confidence intervals. Heterosexual falls from about 85 to 90 percent before 2021 to about 73 percent in 2021 and 2023, then rises to about 78 to 80 percent in 2025. Gay or lesbian stays between about 2 and 5 percent throughout. Bisexual rises to about 12 percent in 2021 in every grade, then among 9th graders falls to about 7 percent in 2025, its 2019 level, while other grades stay near 10 percent. “Some other way,” added in 2021, falls from about 4 percent to about 2.5 percent. “Not sure” stays near 3 to 5 percent. A dotted line marks 2021, when CDC changed the response options.

Gosh. What a surprise that Brendan Carr is a fucking coward. Comedians making jokes on late night TV requires an investigation into the "public interest" standard, but a literal execution is "not my job, go talk to Hegseth who is doing a great job."
A livestream falls outside of the FCC’s regulatory power, but the Pentagon feed is something that, absent restrictions, broadcasters could pick up. The FCC’s obscenity, indecency and profanity guidelines do not directly address executions, but under his tenure, Carr has launched investigations of networks on the grounds that they may not be meeting their public interest obligations. FCC guidance earlier this year emphasized, among other things, that stations must air programming that is “responsive to the needs of their local communities.”

“My understanding is it’s not on broadcast TV, so I don’t think there’s a role for the FCC one way or the other there,” Carr said on CNBC. “But I trust Secretary Hegseth. I mean, he’s implementing the laws and regulations that are relevant to the Department of War, and I think he’s doing a great job, and I trust that he’s making the right call on these issues.”

WASHINGTON - Yesterday, the U.S.
Department of War announced that the firing squad execution of Nidal Hasan, the man convicted of killing 13 people and injuring 32 at Fort Hood, Texas in 2009, would be publicly livestreamed. Archbishop Paul S. Coakley, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops issued the following statement sharply condemning the decision of the U.S. government:
"It is with shock and great sorrow that I have learned of the Department of War's decision to publicly livestream the execution of Nidal Hassan. Our God is the God of life. In no way can Hassan's actions be condoned but this decision is a barbaric promotion of a culture of death and must be reconsidered. The word of God exhorts us: 'do not repay anyone evil for evil' (Romans 12:17). The public execution even of one who has done grave harm will only further undermine the moral fabric of our nation and be a blight on the conscience of its people.United States
