Top historical image shows a V shaped road junction with car parking dominates on both sides of both roads and also at the junction. The junction is wide and laid out of tarmac. Bottom modern day image the car parking has been vastly reduced with no car parking at the junction at all. Footways have been vastly increased with flowers, trees, cycle parking and outdoor dining. roadways much reduced in size so crossing is easier and quicker for pedestrians. Brick paving has replaced tarmac which reduced car speeds and indicates to drivers they are sharing the road with pedestrian and cyclists, who have priority

One mistake urbanists often make is arguing with people when they say they NEED their car for, frankly, whatever. Maybe they do, maybe they don’t, but I find the more effective point is that, if they have to or want to drive, it’s in their best interest that their neighbours can CHOOSE to NOT drive.
