Our cat feeder has a camera but they charge $5/mo for motion clip storage. So last night *while packing* had Claude reverse eng the feed auth so my lil LAN server could consume and then build a way to identify cats, cut clips, dump them on R2. Then make an iOS app that plays those clips. $0/mo
Screenshot of the cat feeder clip player app Claude made. Showing one of my cats roaming around in 3 clips.

FT: SpaceX looks to raise $40bn to buy Nvidia chips
“Investors who SpaceX has previously approached about financing its multibillion-dollar chip purchase said they only received a short two-page deal memo with pictures of outer space and an arrow pointing out that the company was going to build data centres ‘somewhere in the universe’.

‘How are we supposed to take that to the IC?’ one of the people said, referring to the in-house investment committee that approves transactions. ”

AI ‘godfather’ Yann LeCun has ‘zero concerns’ about human extinction, says Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei is ‘deluded’ | Fortune fortune.com/2026/10/01/ai-… #AI #cybersecurity
Text Shot: LeCun isn’t worried “at all” about AI wiping out humanity, and he has “zero concerns” about the recent string of rogue AI incidents, including OpenAI’s agents autonomously hacking Hugging Face in July. He attributes the incidents to poor human oversight and system design, and says they’re “totally preventable,” a belief also held by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who this month called the Hugging Face incident the “responsibility of OpenAI management.”

Nice 👍 dev.to/nandakishor_...
“Instead of staying bitter, I decided to take everything I learned from my March 2025 and September 2025 papers, fix every architectural limitation of the old approach, and build a completely open, horizontal System 1 decision model: RL Agent.

And because we built it properly on a bidirectional encoder, our model runs in 33 to 38 milliseconds on a GPU, making it roughly 4x faster than Jev's published 150 ms latency, and it is 100% open-source.”

A thoughtful answer to “what happened?” when the whole world suddenly talked of extinction from AI. (via Simon Willison)
“Technology is too broad, too deep, and too core to all of our lives to expect everyone to understand everything; we must — at some level — trust domain experts. When those domain experts sow fear, it is the fear that takes root, propagating much more readily than any evidence that may follow it.”

Certain kinds of smart people tend to have a "sexy apocalypse" problem when it comes to thinking about risk. E.g. skynet turning everyone in paperclips, while bad, is also *kind of cool and fun* at the same time. Where the reality is that most actual disasters are both stupid and disappointing.

Amazon tells the FT that it "continues to enhance our protections against non-compliant content", pointing to rules such as limiting the number of titles authors can create to 10 books per format each week. It takes "proactive and reactive measures to prevent, detect and remove content that violates... guidelines, whether AI-generated or not"
