Too pretty not to share this Scottsbluff National Monument sunset picture from my house. #nature #beauty #relax

Sandstone land feature rises into orange-red horizon with blueish-gray cloud bank above and scattered city lights pierce the black foreground.

Taking a moment to breathe in the chaos of the season. ✨ Christmas has us all running around, but there’s something magical about the warmth, the lights, and the people we love. Grateful for the small moments that make the holidays special. 🎄⛄️💫

"When it comes to controlling human beings there is no better instrument than lies. Because, you see, humans live by beliefs. And beliefs can be manipulated. The power to manipulate beliefs is the only thing that counts." Michael Ende - The Neverending Story

[photo of page from The Neverending Story]: "Whatever they please. When it comes to controlling human beings there is no better instrument than lies. Because, you see, humans live by beliefs. And beliefs can be manipulated. The power to manipulate beliefs is the only thing that counts. That's why I sided with the powerful and served them - because I wanted to share their power.'
'I want no part in it!' Atreyu cried out.
'Take it easy, you little fool,' the werewolf growled.
'When your turn comes to jump into the Nothing, you too will be a nameless servant of power, with no will of your own. Who knows what use they will make of you? Maybe you'll help them persuade people to buy things they don't need, or hate things they know nothing about, or hold beliefs that make them easy to handle, or doubt the truths that might save them. Yes, you little Fantastican, big things will be done in the human world with your help, wars started, empires founded..."

This remains on of the pictures I took in Ireland. Looking down on Enniscorthy, from atop Vinegar Hill.

One Source of Bad Information, by Robert Bly (quoted in Wild Things: A Geography of Grief by Barbara Wansbrough)

There's a boy in you about three
Years old who hasn't learned a thing for thirty Thousand years. Sometimes it's a girl.

This child had to make up its mind
How to save you from death. He said things like:
"Stay home. Avoid elevators. Eat only elk."

You live with this child, but you don't know it.
You're in the office, yes, but live with this boy
At night. He's uninformed, but he does want
To save your life. And he has. Because of this boy You survived a lot. He's got six big ideas.
Five don't work. Right now he's repeating them
to you.

Robert Bly, 'One Source of Bad Information'

"You’ve been through tough moments and still kept going — that already makes you stronger than you think. Don’t rush. Don’t doubt yourself. Every step forward, even the small ones, is building the life you deserve. Keep going, you’re doing better than you know."

Lamb kofta preparation done for dinner tonight. Cooked on the BBQ. Fresh tabouli and homemade tzatziki dip. The weather is perfect for it.

Artomyces pyxidatus, the Crown-tipped Coral or Candelabra Coral fungus, was not seen in the UK over the entire 20th century, its last record in 1886 until a spate of recent findings around 2022, which is when I found this specimen (in East Kent). Where did it disappear all this time?

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is looking for #BirdsOnTwigs, I might be stretching things a little with my bulrush as twig (cattail for the colonial commoners) and this male red winged blackbird perching and swaying in the breeze. 🦉🐦 #Photography #Birds #EastCoastKin #Nature #Wildlife

Color photograph of a male red winged blackbird, holding onto the top of a bulrush that's core has gone to fluffy seed, with a blurry dark lake behind.
