Broadly negative views about the economy are seen across the political spectrum. Joanne Hsu, director of @umich.edu Surveys of Consumers, tells Newsweek the survey uses "a random sample of consumers from across the country and all walks of life." myumi.ch/NXyyD
{Republican consumer confidence} is now well below its historical average and is currently about 15 percent lower than January 2025. Independents, too, are feeling much worse about the economy than they did at the start of 2025.

Richard Curtin, professor emeritus and former director of Surveys of Consumers, was inducted into the RV/MH Hall of Fame. He was honored for his lasting contributions to how the RV industry tracks unit sales and consumer sentiment. myumi.ch/yk14V
