can’t stop thinking about the terrible portmanteau “dickmatized” if it’s “dick”+“hypnotized” why is it not “dicknotized”‽ “-matized” brings to mind “stigmatized” & “traumatized” which are antithetical to the spirit of the term, imho i’m sure there’s a linguistic term for this but i still hate it

One way you could do this is by cancelling a subscription or two that you don’t want anymore and put that money towards mutual aid instead! I’ve unsubscribed from Spotify and Disney+ and now I’m “subscribed” to making monthly donations to my local food bank for the same price

When I was a kid I remember thinking “damn, it’s too bad I’m not gay because my parents would be the best allies to a gay kid”. Anyway I was wrong about the not being gay part, but I was right about them being the best (they sent me Pride macarons 🥹)

I would love to try out a different deodorant scent but in order to do that I’ll have to press a button at my local CVS and make an employee unlock the case and wait there for several minutes watching me pick up and sniff various deodorant tubes. Surely there is no better business model than this!

Summary:
If two months of living in the cove has taught Carson anything, it's that this seemingly-quiet and solitary enclave is full of secrets, ready to be discovered as long as you know where to look.
As Carson continues to settle into life in Rockford Bay, new faces and perspectives begin to bubble up to the surface.
Notes:
This chapter is dedicated to the legendary Zulu, who played a significant part in the initial brainstorming for this fic. Several of the characters we meet here and in future chapters were inspired by her suggestions. I've held those ideas close to my heart for nearly a year and I'm so excited to finally start sharing them with you.

Chapter 3
"It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of Annabel Lee;
And this maiden she lived with no other..."
The steady flow of words from Greta's mouth trails to a halt. With brows furrowed, she brings the book closer to her face to examine the unfamiliar configuration of glyphs on the page.
"Thought," Carson continues on Greta's behalf after allowing her to ponder over the pronunciation. "And this maiden she lived with no other thought, than to love and be loved by me." She can't help but finish out the rest of the line; The poem is an old favorite of hers. Every word is forever etched into her memory, coming to her as naturally as waves traveling home to the shore.
"That's how you spell thought?" Greta shrieks, and she looks as if she's about to toss Carson's beloved book of poetry into the sea. "Why are there so many extra letters? Whose brilliant idea was it to use four letters to make one sound?"
"Those four letters make a lot of sounds," Carson clarifies, her voice hesitant and apologetic, as if she were the one who set the rules. "It's also how you spell though, through, thorough, cough, enough, and sometimes plough, depending on where you are."
