I think it's fascinating that, in particular, the military flightsim genre was the one that said "we refuse" to those limitations, and MADE 3D GRAPHICS HAPPEN, NO MATTER HOW STEEP A HILL THEY HAD TO CLIMB. Weirdly, more whimsical genres lacked that impetus. Someone should study that phenomenon.

And yes, there are more cases of UNSANCTIONED slavery than ever. But I won't admit that as an inevitability, any more than I will admit that rape is inevitable. Another good example would be direct human sacrifice, for religious purposes. That happens ALMOST ZERO TIMES PER YEAR, across the globe.

I hasten to add that people, in recent historical times, used to talk about legal chattel slavery as "inevitable," too. Something that we couldn't get rid of. Something too big and fundamental to ever eradicate. But the people who knew they stood on the moral high ground refused to accept that.
