Emmanuel Macron spoke with Donald Trump to discuss the energy crisis. France intends to convene a virtual meeting of G7 leaders "as soon as possible" to "coordinate measures to help ease price pressures and guarantee supplies of crude oil and refined products", per l'Elysée.

The US supplies more than half of Europe's diesel imports, a share that grew a lot after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Much of Europe's emergency diesel stockpiles has already been used. Now Trump is creating another emergency because his numbers look and, once again, it's short notice.

This needs to catch on in the rest of western Europe. The price of buying a home has become unaffordable because it has been converted into a speculative investment, and renting has becoming increasingly difficult to find because everything is short term let aimed at the tourist industry.

"The United States and its energy industry are making a killing selling crude oil and its derivatives to the rest of the world." Not only has the US oil industry profited from Trump's idiotic war, it has also become a political tool, adding to the unreliability of having the US as a trading partner.

The United States has slid into competitive authoritarianism. The slide has been modest and remains reversible—but it is real. Even after Donald Trump, American democracy will remain fragile.

As South America is increasing being captured by the far right it would come as little surprise if Bolsonaro makes a comeback in the shape of his son. Lula is 80 year old, his approval rating has fallen to 24% and the absence of a left wing alternative is like a death foretold.

Bardella made some serious, now resurfaced, anti-Semitic remarks at the age of 17, but this does not bother Israel's far right government because it is flying over its Diaspora Minister to the rescue. Netanyahu is openly supporting far right movements and candidates all over Europe.
