Pen and watercolor

Cowboys again. This time one of our boys has lost his boots. Standing in a field of long grass the cowboy points towards the ground and shouts back to his colleague, “Lil bone people got muh boots.” This makes no sense to the other cowboy who sits atop his horse away from the action. He responds, “Lil wut?” Sure enough in the foreground we see a squad of little bone people scampering through the grass with the stolen cowboy boots. They’re thrilled. How the bone people got the boots off the cowboy is unclear.

Artist’s note: I tend to draw drawings from the same perspective (straight on) most of the time. This idea came about when I was goofin around trying to draw a character from a lower angle. I like that the story unfolds with the foreground, mid-ground, and background all working together. There’s a draft of this one included in the Spooky Pants book. Coming out next week!

Despair Acrylics on 8 x 10 in. canvas board #art
Painting of a pale and weathered face against a background of abstract purple brushstrokes. The eye sockets are hollow with darkness leaking from them and blood trickling from the lower edges. The gaping black mouth is open wide, contorted in a silent scream.

A drawing from this evening. What is it? Man…you know I have no idea. But it’s fun.
Art. Black and white ink pen drawing that looks a bit like a long- necked creature with trailing tentacles, shown from the neck up. The neck is long and segmented, as if you can see the vertebrae.

The creature — whom we’ll call Sealesstra — has wide open eyes that scream of innocence and curiosity. Or maybe murder.

Okay, so I've finished reading KILLING THE BOOGEYMAN by @richardchizmar.bsky.social. The title implies some sort of finality, either literal or symbolic. But whether we might ever see Joshua Gallagher directly again or not, he's going to cast a shadow for a very long time. Fantastic ride. #booksky

Canada is refusing to issue ISBNs to books primarily generated with AI. This illustrates both the urgency of the problem of the growing flood of slop books, and also the toothlessness of addressing it on the honor system without there also being consequences for lying

Look at this fantastic shirt Carroll Spinney (Big Bird!) wore on What's My Line in 1973. We need to bring this look back pronto.
Caroll Spinney, a tall, lanky man, wearing a fabulous shirt that's difficult to easily describe. It's sort of a mottled purple and black, with somewhat loose sleeves, and looks like something that might be worn by royalty in a medieval or fantasy setting.
