Eversource corruption on full display. Ask yourself if your town's small businesses — who are getting CRUSHED by Eversource costs — would ever, in a million years, even have the capacity to suggest a scheme like this, let alone the right people's phone number. Backwards priorities.

a little louder for the cheap seats in the back
One of the biggest myths is that men rape by mistake. Like, "Oh, they need consent training." But research is very clear: Sexual violence is not a mistake. It is an intentionally made decision by people who know they don't have consent. They just don't prioritize consent over things like status, power, domination, and sexual gratification.
For my research, I got a certificate of confidentiality from the National Institutes of Health, so my notes couldn't be subpoenaed. One of the reasons I call them perpetrators in my work is because every single person I interviewed confessed in that context. The first question I would ask them was, "When you received that email from Title IX that you were under investigation, did you know what it was about?" Every perpetrator I interviewed said "yes." If sexual assault were a miscommunication, you would be wondering, What have I possibly done wrong? That is not the way that any of them reacted because they knew.

there is a cruel irony that the age of optimization — wringing every bit of value and advantage from each player — is the same age where most teams don't use any of that to try to win.

In Connecticut, most of these people aren't taken seriously, but there is a little movement to put every single taxpayer dollar into the stock market. It's also why they want to appoint their rich friends — who can't be held accountable by voters — to invest our money as they deem worthy.

To use a Claude-ism, Anthropic's "economy adapts quickly" assumption is "load-bearing." If the elasticity of capital supply is on the low end, their own model shows AI producing Silicon Valley's feudalist dream: average wages go down, labor's share of income goes down, net return to capital goes up.

Jack Clark: One thing that happens in the scenario model is just an implied higher rate of activity in terms of churn in the underlying jobs in the economy. Where basically we expect that AI makes the economy run faster in a bunch of ways. We’ve talked about the rate of creation of new firms. I think you would also expect this to lead to the creation of a bunch of new jobs, and then a key variable is how long does it take a person to go from say an “old job” to a “new job”, and also you might imagine how quickly firms rethink jobs within the concept of a firm and reallocate things — these are big variables. My expectation is the economy adapts around these things surprisingly quickly. Nonetheless, the rate of AI progress is so unprecedented that there might be a temporary mismatch as capabilities arrive faster than the rate of adaptation in the economy. Again, that’s a variable where we’re going to discover things in time.
Table 5: Scenarios in 2030 at four elasticities of capital supply.
