✏️ My pull request for a refund feature grew past 3,000 lines. At that size, a code review can't do its job: reviewers miss things or rubber-stamp it. So I stopped adding to it and started extracting the unrelated fixes and tests into their own PRs. mikezornek.com/posts/2026/9...

It never felt good to me to get done working on a change, then be given a list of 20 things the linter demanded I fix before I could ship it. Each of those is mentally taxing, and they really sapped my motivation. When the rewrites happen automatically, it feels like I’ve gotten something for free.

We do *also* have a bunch of linter checks, but they’re for things we can’t fix automatically (where the suggested alternatives are not semantically equivalent). We took the position that anything the linter *can* just fix for you, it should.

💜 A favor to ask: I'm looking to land Elixir consulting work. To help get in front of new faces, I have a "one problem, two weeks, $6,000" offer. Aimed at one nagging thing: a flaky test suite, a stalled upgrade. The debt that falls on the floor. A share or an intro would mean a lot. 🙏 #ElixirLang

TIL the term “dry run” originated with firefighters in the late 1800s; a dry run was a practice without actually turning on the water hose. The opposite term, a “wet run,” was also used.
