Preview of some rewrites coming to Quokka, courtesy of my coworker @katafrakt.eurosky.social at Jump... Our DX team has leaned pretty heavily into trying to automate performance improvements like these. If the formatter can do it for you, why not? 😄 #ElixirLang

Here's what my coworker got.
Google AI answer that begins by saying there are 2 "p"s in "Google," but then concludes by spelling it out ("G-o-o-g-l-e") and saying there are exactly zero "p"s.

I'm dying 😂
AI result from Google declaring there is exactly 1 "p" in the word "Google," and that there's been a lot of chatter online about Google AI wrongly saying there were 2.

Boy, thank goodness we have LLM generated tests for this code, otherwise we'd have no tests at all!
LLM-generated "test" code which doesn't call into actual production code at all, instead making assertions about the test setup itself.

Tip for Mac users: the built-in keyboard replacements tool is great. You can use it to get text-to-emoji replacement on essentially any text field (unless the developer has done something truly foul—looking at you, Gmail compose field). E.g., I type :hoot to get the owl emoji.

Really enjoyed @nicholasjhenry.github.io’s talk on validating business rules in Ecto. It had never occurred to me that we should validate some of our association rules in the context, not the schema’s changeset function, but I’m convinced!

The nicest thing that has ever been said about me as a dev 🥹 P.S. If your company doesn’t have a shoutouts channel in Slack, you should get on that. 😄
A Slack message that reads:
Shoutout to Tyler Young for writing code in a way that makes it super clear for new devs to understand and follow what is happening. Clarity is easily overlooked, especially when building fast, but his code is always really clear.

Two interesting things to note: - The overwhelming majority of poll respondents on both Twitter and Mastodon say they'd read it, but the overwhelming majority of replies on all 3 sites say they wouldn't - As I've always found, people on Mastodon have higher rates of self-reported conscientiousness
Poll results showing 81% of respondents saying they would read the long moduledoc, while 19% say they would speed past itPoll results showing 65.1% of respondents saying they would read the long moduledoc, while 34.9% say they would speed past it

Citing @david.bernheisel.com's Safe Ecto Migrations is like citing the Bible.
Slack message quoting a paragraph from Safe Ecto Migrations explaining that @disable_migration_lock requires you to run the migration on a single node only, since there is no protection against multiple nodes running the same migration at the same time.

Once a year I check on the value of the Generac stock I bought at a 10% discount during the 6 months I worked there (one of two individual stocks I've bought in my entire life). Once a year I remind myself I should not be picking stocks. The dot is where I bought.

v0.6.0 of parameterized_test is out now, adding attribution to the stacktrace of failing tests to show which set of parameters caused the failure. This massively improves the debuggability of these tests. Many thanks to @wojtekmach.bsky.social and @dorgan.ar for tips on the implementation!

Apple's had a lot of misses in the last few years, but this is by far the worst. Are they really so proud of their goofy reactions that they have to nag me *every*, *single* Zoom call about them? The fact that the close button doesn't work is just icing on the cake.
