11. I am at the DAM today with my parents. I’m really excited to show them what I’ve been seeing recently. We stopped in the gift shop first.

1. This week, I was not able to go to the Denver Museum of Art on Monday because I was working on my engineering capstone. Our final showcase is this Friday, so we were gathering content for the showcase. Here is a video we recorded on Monday. #ConArtInSitu

20. I'm reflecting on some of the pieces I saw yesterday, and this one is stuck in my head. I'm not sure what this piece is called, but it reminded me of the text in a different part of the exhibit that said: "A mask may reveal or conceal, but it will never tell the truth." Is this on purpose?

Just arrived at DAM. I went downstairs in the Hamilton building and I feel like I’ve found a secret area. To my understanding this area is for hosting meetings. The hands on the walls are signed with what I believe is the donors signatures. It reminded me that this museum is still a business.

Just got to the Denver Art Museum. I went to the big ship building and went upstairs to the stars we do not see exhibit. This is the third exhibit I have seen in this space. It’s impressive how differently it’s laid out for each exhibit. #ConArtInSitu

I have finally made it to MCA for this week. Today I want to spend time with Bethany Collins “Or, The Whale”. #ConArtInSitu

Unfortunately today I can’t come to MCA because I am struck with my senior design project. It is not working. I think sometimes engineering is like art because it’s difficult and takes an absurd amount of time #ConArtInSitu I am planning on going to MCA tomorrow to go spend more time with the pieces

1. How do we start? Do we necessarily have naive responses to art as a starting point? We start with art by going to see it and applying our lived experiences to it. I think that naive is not a guaranteed starting point, but it is the default. 1/2 #ConArtInSitu

How does the artist's choice of material(s) influence your reading of the work? I think the material choice affects how easy it is for someone to draw conclusions of theme/purpose. Personally, I feel it is easier to see themes in pieces with lots of layers (charcoal, paint, collage). #ConArtInSitu

After reading the first 70 pages of "How To Write About Contemporary Art", I feel more equipped to talk about the themes of "Chaos at Noon".

The first piece I want to spend time looking at today is “Caos al mediodía / Chaos at noon” by Ana Maria Hernando. I saw this piece last week but was not able to spend much time with it. #ConArtInSitu

What is contemporary? First and foremost, it's a word I struggle to spell, but other than that, I believe it is a synonym for zeitgeist, but in a more vague way. I think contemporary, at its basis, is just something that is occurring in a similar time frame to some perspective. #ConArtInSitu

Wrapping up my first visit to MCA, I spent a lot of time on the second floor but didn’t get to spend as much time on the first and lower floors. I thought the lower floor was very aesthetically cool so I’d like to focus on this level next time. #ConArtInSitu

Standing in the room with the Mamabots and I’m confused. I can’t really figure out what the pieces are about. I think the holes over the photos of what I assume to be her childhood are reflective of maybe feeling disconnected from her past and her childhood in another country. I’m not sure though.

I think these pieces are meant to look like vacuum sealed bags that are often common when packing things in a move. After reading what the installation is about, I like how these pieces represent travel and constant transition. #ConArtInSitu

I really liked this piece “Chaos at noon”. It reminded me of the art pieces in my childhood home that my great grandfather painted. Some of the defining traits of my great grandfathers paintings are that things seem familiar and you think you know what you are seeing but you don’t.

This piece reminds me of the urban outfitter tapestries that were super popular in 2016.

Looking at the large waterfall piece on the second floor, it reminds me of a few different things but does not immediately evoke any emotions. #ConArtInSitu

Just arrived at MCA and went up to the cafe. While we checking in with our professor, I noticed a man in the apartments across the street watering a large wall of plants. #ConArtInSitu

What is art? I think art can really be anything, in the sense that art is sort of a medium for the projection of humanity, so it can take lots of different forms and mean different things to different people at different times. #ConArtInSitu
