I was considering this for a good amount at the Kirkland Museum. A lot of the art in their is furniture, and it made me wonder how many chairs/tables/rugs/etc. that would be placed in a museum are just in people's homes. Or maybe how much of that art got destroyed by a pet or a toddler?

14. I went back to the recreation of Kirkland’s studio and thought the straps to hold himself over his paintings were very funny. I do wonder how he got down and why he never tried to angle the canvas…

13. I also like this chair a lot and I think this record player is just the coolest thing. I would LOVE to have a record player like this one day. Part of why I like this exhibit so much is because for my entire life I have decorated my room with a space theme.

12. This museum is fun because I somehow want all of it to be in my home. I think this is the art piece I would want the most. I just love the colors, layers, and energy that radiates from it.

11. In the fall I took a physics class called “Astrobiology”. We had to debate whether we should send manned missions to Mars and one subtopic of the debate was the cultural aspect. I wasn’t alive during the space race so I never realized how influential it was in so many ways (design, literature)

9. I’ve wandered back to the space is the place exhibit. I was really looking forward to this exhibit and wish that it was larger but given the size of the Kirkland it make sense it isn’t.

8. Here is my favorite Colorado themed piece. I like how vibrant the colors are and how striking the landscape is. It reminds me of some of the art I liked in the 19th century Europe exhibit. I think what I like is that it feels like what I see in dreams. #ConArtInSitu

7. I also like how the art in the Kirkland is Colorado themed. I think it is cool that part of the Denver Museum of Art showcases art that is unique to here. #ConArtInSitu

6. This is making me wonder how the feel of museums came to be. Have art galleries always looked a certain way? Is there a standard way of showcasing design art? Is there a less overwhelming way of showcasing design? #ConArtInSitu

5. This museum has a very interesting feel to it. The way that the ceramics, glassware, and furniture are on display kind of reminds me of an antique store. #ConArtInSitu

21. Written next to this piece was a plaque that said that this piece is presented horizontally because that is how it was created. Having that knowledge contextualizes the fluidity of other pieces in this exhibit. #ConArtInSitu

19. This piece, “Seven Sisters”, is very striking but what was most fascinating is that the seven sisters story is one that is told by indigenous people all over the world. I know that all people are connected but it’s insane how the stories told here are also told there!

15. I’ve noticed that my parents spend a long time at each piece. I wonder if that is because of their experiences with art, older age, practice, or just better attention span.

10. I was thinking about this while answering the "why bananas" question. Maybe it is a projection of humanity because of the quick cycle of life. The bananas bruise quickly, which maybe is a reminder of the fragility of human life or the circle of life? idk?

twylaborck.bsky.social @twylaborck.bsky.social · 13/05/2026
9. Another thought about why bananas could be, because they often are viewed as just a banana. I think that some other fruits/vegetables have brands that are easily equated with other pop culture concepts. Just a thought!

8. That is an interesting point. I found myself considering this when we were discussing it in class. I thought that maybe they continue to come up because they are such a common object. Another thought is that maybe the color plays a role, or the way that it can visibly decay quickly?

7. I honestly agree with this. During our first week, I described art as a projection of humanity onto another medium, and I feel that maybe someone could argue that this is somehow a projection of humanity. Though I do not see an obvious argument... #ConArtInSitu

4. I think that the way to do a blockbuster exhibit about it would be to either bring in more of Cattelan's work. Another way they could do it is maybe gather and curate pieces that changed the definitions of art in a similar way. I think that would be a VERY interesting exhibit and one I'd see.

3. Thinking about "The Joker" at DAM is a funny thought. I think that they would almost have to present it as a blockbuster exhibit that is heavily eventified for people to recognize it. But it would be pretty funny to tuck it away in one of the more permanent galleries. #ConArtInSitu

2. Since the showcase is this weekend, my parents will be in town. Both of my parents have been creative professionals at various points in their lives, so they are my favorite people to go to museums with. I think the plan is to visit the DAM on Saturday. I'm excited for their perspectives.

20. I'm reflecting on some of the pieces I saw yesterday, and this one is stuck in my head. I'm not sure what this piece is called, but it reminded me of the text in a different part of the exhibit that said: "A mask may reveal or conceal, but it will never tell the truth." Is this on purpose?

19. I decided my brain was melting a little too much and that it was time for me to go home. I still haven’t seen floors 3,4, and 5 of the Martin building or any of the Kirkland building. Next week, I’ll tackle those! #ConArtInSitu

18. I’ve moved to the Martin building. It feels like my brain is melting a little but it’s ok! I’m on the 6th floor and can’t say I am too moved by some of the European art. I did really appreciate the exhibit of photographs of people. I love seeing people living life and this exhibit captured that.

16. I stopped into the fish fence nets exhibit on the first floor. I felt this exhibit was very moving. The video of the women explaining how the nets are made and what they mean was very powerful. Seeing the nets layered onto one another reminded me of all the layers of history behind individuals.

15. As I made my way downstairs, I was shocked at how much of this museum I hadn’t noticed before. For example, I have NEVER seen the “As to be in plain sight” piece. I also never noticed all the little stick figures climbing up to the top on each level. This place is like Mary Poppin’s bag.

10. I think the slant of the walls make me feel curious. It reminds me of being a child and wanting to explore lots of different textures and areas. It also has a very cool impact on the artwork. These pieces by Susan Wick have a stronger emotional pull because of the slanted wall. #ConArtInSitu
