This place is so cool honestly. I love the aspect of contemporary art where you can make yourself a part of it in so many pieces. Like making this little mini dress in the fashion exhibit. When it becomes interactive I think it’s more interesting #ConArtInSitu

So cool. Learned about the “little black dress” when I studied in Italy! If I remember correctly it was one of the first steps in fashion toward celebrating a feminine figure and less about hiding it and being modest. That class was a while ago so I may be mixing that up #ConArtInSitu

This one feels very contemporary. The theme of nostalgia has been really apparent in a lot of pieces I’ve looked at at both museums. #ConArtInSitu

day 15 writing I honestly don't have much reaction to any of the bananas... I mean I like the velvet underground, so I like the andy warhol banana, but I think the whole idea of the duct taped banana actually selling for money is crazy. #ConArtInSitu

I think it’s cool how in the decor exhibit they make all the seats you are actually allowed to sit it not look like seats, and then all the art pieces that you can’t sit in look like seats #conartinsitu

#ConArtInSitu @capenn.bsky.social sometimes you make the contemporary choice to sit on the floor instead of the empty chair behind you!

Just tried sitting at the salt transfer piece as well… not getting it. It might just not be for me? I don’t know. It’s definitely interesting. #ConArtInSitu

Adding onto the sleepers commentary, the images constantly changing and evolving into something else so quickly and the timer counting to 1 feel like they connect in some way. I’m thinking in the way that the situations we face today are constantly changing at a crazy pace #ConArtInSitu

#ConArtInSitu I find it interesting in Sarah sze’s piece that every time an animal is shown, it is running away, and every time she appears on screen she is sleeping. Every visual is so beautiful.

#ConArtInSitu Andddd here we are! Back to this one. In the audio you can hear very heavy strained breathing. Ominous almost.

#ConArtInSitu Making my way to the 4th floor contemporary art section for the Sarah Sze piece to sit with it. So many eye catching pieces on the way I want to stop by later

1. reflecting on a work I have seen I enjoyed the bit of "Fuse Box" that I saw. It was a collection of different screens with visuals and audio played over. The images werefrom a hike up a mountain, perhaps portraying beauty+struggle. I didn't get much time but want to sit with this next visit.

The Australian art exhibit has a lot of expanding circles as a theme in the art. Also a sort of paint-by-dot style. Stumbled across a tour group going through and got to listen to some insights from that as well #ConArtInSitu

Expanding on the idea that the microphone is visually meant to represent her, maybe it’s playing audio where she specifically found spaces of silence where she was able to find complex feeling to “speak” through her art. #ConArtInSitu

I’m thinking maybe the microphone is visually supposed to represent her? Like that’s her skin and that’s her hair? Not sure yet though need more reflection #ConArtInSitu

The microphone, visually, is kind of eerie. This goes for a lot of Lee’s works in this room. It looks like it is plastered in skin and the cord is made of braided hair with what looks like bird clips in it #ConArtInSitu

Today I am observing and evaluating Lee’s complex silence. I was going to look at the dumpling wall but the audio faintly coming from the massive microphone caught my attention more #ConArtInSitu

Encountered a baby bird on the walk over to the museum from the lightrail. Wondering if he’s sick or can’t fly that well yet. Also makes me think of how he’s gonna be nostalgic for these days when he’s a big bird #ConArtInSitu

We start by observing. This does not have to necessarily be a niave response, it is just begining with whatever you see and feel. As our reading explained, there's critique to using unnesessary complicated language, so explaining and evaluating in simpler ways may be less niave. #ConArtInSitu

All of Collins Antigone pieces on display at the MCAD seem to show different phases of conflict and clashing. The first wall with the clashing of a storm, the 2nd arguing on "warnings" and whatnot, and the 3rd on two different worlds and right or wrong. #ConArtInSitu

Clare @clareclarf.bsky.social · 16/04/2026
so funny. I went to Bethany Collins website and viewed the piece titled Antigone on there, and the un-smudged words are different than what's on display in the MCAD... there's multiple versions i guess? #ConArtInSitu

Clare @clareclarf.bsky.social · 16/04/2026
The second wall on Antigone also feels stressful. It’s like when you keep saying something is going to happen and nobody wants to listen and then it happens and you want to say “I told you so” soooo badly. #ConArtInSitu

Clare @clareclarf.bsky.social · 15/04/2026
Now I’m thinking about it, the rumbling when you’re coming down the stairs probably is meant to feel like audio of a storm while you’re at sea? #ConArtInSitu

Jake just left me with a thought provoking comment: do we think this is political? Or is ALL art political in some way? Do we find reason to make it political for our own benefit? #ConArtInSitu

#ConArtInSitu the choice in materials of the karaoke piece were super important to my reading of the piece. For example, in Lee's materials, she used the Korean and English versions of the song, echoed in different speakers. I read this to represent a merging of two identities in one person.

“That star is mine. That one is yours. You even count the stars.” This may have been my favorite line from the book of comments. It’s one of those things where you can see the exact image they’re describing because you’ve been there. I love stargazing. Super cute, made me smile. #ConArtInSitu

Even when you focus on one screen from the piece, there’s an echo from the other. You can’t be simply defined by one aspect of your life. We’re all too complex. There’s echos of everything we once were, and are now, in everything we do. We’re shaped by everything we encounter and feel. #ConArtInSitu

Reading the comments in the book was interesting, and I hadn’t done it last time I was there. So many people felt nostalgia for a place they had never actually been. They held so much longing for the feeling associated with a song that tied them to a place in time. #Irelate #ConArtInSitu
