Sure seems like Labor doesn't have the demographic representative weight substantial enough to be dictating policy alone, or they wouldn't need the cross bench. If we go down that route, we end up like the US - where two shithouse parties dominate government. Jesus wept what are we doing here

100's of fascists storm Dover *explicitly* to block roads with the threat of violence in a racist "protest": No arrests. Just Stop Oil members plan to disrupt a highway in a zoom call: 4-5 year sentences. The pigs don't go after fascists for the same reason Peter Parker never fights Spider-Man.
A line of hundreds of gormless fascists lining & blocking a road. All in black.Five smiling people posing in a churchyard. All different ages, one with a mobility aid.

In my time in male leftist spaces I met, again and again, similar kinds of self-embarassed guys who held a deep, nostalgic longing for various forms of unreconstructed masculinity and a hissing resentment of feminism in general. Lost patience with one once and told him: "Go fight your actual dad!"

If the federal government actually wanted to help kids from low-SES backgrounds go to uni, they'd expand access to Youth Allowance to kids over 15 in low-income families and significantly increase the rate so kids didn't have to work to pay rent or support their family while they study.

I know Calvin’s dad is already having a moment, but every terrible “outsource precious and fleeting moments with your children to tech so that you can spend more time on your work” pitch makes me think of that one strip I never really cared about as a kid, but care a lot about as an adult.
The Calvin and Hobbes strip where Calvin asks his dad to come play in the snow with him. His dad initially says no, because he has to work. Then, angry at himself, his Dad goes out to build a snowman with Calvin. As the Dad works into the night to make up for it, we see Calvin’s mum lifting him up to give one of the few, if only, kisses he ever gives his dad in the Calvin and Hobbes run. His dad is content. It’s a textless comic, and it’s lovely.
