On Tuesday, September 15 at about 12pm, a bat was found on the sidewalk on Hennepin Ave between N. Washington Ave and N 3°St.
The bat died and was sent for rabies testing. This bat tested positive for
rabies.
A woman was seen crouching by the bat and putting it into a bag. She was described as a 25-to-30-year-old white woman, about 5'5", with curly brown hair and a curly-haired golden retriever-like dog. If this was you, please call 911 and ask to be connected to Animal Care & Control.
Bites from bats are tiny, may be painless, and may not leave a mark. An person who had physical contact or touched this bat should talk with health care provider this weekend for assessment. During the week, Minnesota Department of Health can also provide rabies assessments at 651-201-5414.
If vou did not touch or have any contact with the bat, you have no risk of rabies and do not need shots.

I wish there were easy to access options for genetic testing for rat breeding because, at the moment, the only way to know what an animal might carry, be that a color modifier or a recessive genetic illness, is to pair your two favorite siblings and observe the resulting offspring.

Guess who has an ear infection! 🙃

reminder to sniff your rats' holes every so often. yes including those ones. Nothing should smell fishy or like rot. If you catch a whiff of something offensive, even faintly, something is probably wrong. rats should smell pleasant to neutral.

All the rats got a health inspection today. I think Ollie might have the earliest phases of an ear infection. There is a thin, watery, pinkish liquid in her ear canal and it's a little smelly. Those are the only symptoms, there's no head tilt and she's not sick.

If your rat's nipples are ever very obvious, like all the fur around them is gone and they're enlarged, and you're absolutely certain she isn't pregnant, please take her to the vet. Fish had this going on months ago and it was an early sign of her pituitary tumor. I didn't know.

reasonably sure one of the girls has open pyometra and we do have a vet appointment tuesday bc she's been visibly ill for unclear (until now) reasons but ALL of her sisters seem to have some genetic problem with metabolizing anesthetic so i don't..... know how this is going to go.

we're likely saying goodbye to her today so i fried an egg just for her. She can have the whole thing if she can manage it. it's her favorite food. she seems to have a pituitary tumor. she also has another mammary tumor in a spot that's gonna be dangerous if left alone, it's just... it's time

Vy's OC sits morosely on a chair in an elegant room. They reach out towards the chair's empty twin. It is pouring rain outside, and the whole room is lit by a bolt of lightning. Behind them is a towering shadow with the head of a bull, and glowing, bright, eyes. Tendrils of shadow reach out from it, and wrap around our sad creature.
