I've been looking into this exact issue for some time. Get a plastic hardside luggage (vs aluminum) to save significant weight and cost, as they're about 15lbs empty. Look for hinged options, as those aren't expandable. The Samsonite Framelock seems good. Only a few brands / models meet these reqs.
