Real unemployment numbers are assuredly higher than what this report has shared: "Of the more than 7 million unemployed people in the country, nearly 2 million have been out of work for six months or more." I would really like to know what those true numbers are as people get left behind.

Reading Brianna Nofil’s fantastic book “The Migrant Jail” & this is what she has to say about immigration detention already in the first half of the 20th century

Towns and cities throughout the United States recognized detained migrants as a racialized source of financial capital; working with the immigration service became a way to bankroll carceral expansion without requiring the approval (or even the tax dollars) of voters.

You cannot leave prison without a documented place to stay, a job or rehabilitation program lined up, and someone to come and pick you up. There was one woman we met who was there for 2 EXTRA years at the state prison cause she had no living family and simply couldnt get a ride
