I don’t think everyone realizes how bad things are for US science: For the fiscal year that just ended, the Trump regime withheld $1.4 billion from the National Science Foundation’s research budget, which is about 1/5 of its primary research budget.

The move, affecting about one-fifth of the National Science Foundation’s primary research budget, is the latest sign of how the White House is asserting more control over grants.

In the Biden administration, l led the team that developed what was arguably the first White House “AI safety” framework, the AI Bill of Rights. David Robinson, author of this forthright and sobering essay about risk culture at OpenAI and in Silicon Valley was on that team.

This is it people. The average ocean temperature in the Nino 3.4 region of the Pacific Ocean is now 29.822C. The previous record was 29.815C in 2015, 2 months later than today's date. That means the heating isn't done yet.

And third: Russian crude gets sold to (and refined) in India and China. Russia just loses the ability to make higher margins, to India and China. Thats why the price of diesel actually went down when Ukraine started sanctioning refineries. Only started going up when the strait of Hormuz closed.

The industry spent $1Tn on AI compute infrastructure this year (alone). The bills are coming due, that’s why they want to slow down, it’s math not philanthropy.
