Xenorhinotherium & Macrauchenia my beloveds This was mostly an exercise in achieving different fur textures in Blender, as well as an excuse to make an infographic since I haven't made one of those in a while. #SciArt #artbyjulio
A simple infographic showing a mostly tan, short-haired Xenorhinotherium and a dark brown, long-haired Macrauchenia against a solid background, with a human silhouette for scale. Each animal has a lineart of South America besides it showing an estimated range, and its scientific name below it.

A New Age of Reptiles: Bristly Surf Shrew In the New Age of Reptiles, placentals are just one among many lineages of eutherians. Surf Shrews, initially misidentified as eulipotyphlans, are members of a large clade of mostly invertivorous mammals common in the Northern Hemisphere. (1/7)
A Bristly Surf Shrew, a chunky, desman-like mammal with a thick and roughly scaled tail and widely flaring nose. It has a grizzly fur pattern and a yellowish patch of skin surrounding the nostrils. A size comparison with a human hand shows it to be roughly the size of a hand with extended fingers. Text above reads "Bristly Surf Shrew"

Up in the #Appalachian mountains during the Pleistocene, a young Mastodon is very excited to have found a new playmate. The playmate in question is not nearly so enthused but also can’t do much about it. This is a sketch I began a while ago but only just returned to. #paleoart #pleistocene #sciart
A colored-pencil drawing of a very fluffy, reddish-furred juvenile Mastodon against a white background, drawn in a running pose with its mouth open in joy while lifting a screaming raccoon into the air above its head with its coiled trunk. The mastodon has very short but still protruding tusks.

#FossilFriday "A digital mural of an ice age landscape with extinct animals, produced for the San Jose Children's Discovery Museum." @bzaiken.bsky.social
A bird's-eye view of the landscape with lots of proboscideans and other animals walking toward a small river. The landscape is open, with some trees, and mountains in the distance.

From Beth Zaiken's website: This digital mural was produced as a lenticular graphic for the San Jose Children's Discovery Museum's new exhibit "Mammoth Discovery." The mural depicts a Pleistocene version (approx. 10,000 years ago) of the landscape that is now modern day downtown San Jose. (©Beth Zaiken)

A lenticular graphic shows two images at once, and shifts into just one or the other depending on where you are standing. The graphic switches from a photograph of downtown to the prehistoric landscape, like a hologram, it changes as you walk by.

Wakaleo Alcootaensis Mother&Joey Walk by a defensive Male Wakaleo with a hunted Kolopsis torus carcass perched in a banksia tree. With the Male Grunting in defense from the mother, An Alcoota Goanna stands shell shocked nearby in the same Banksia tree, and in the distance, a pair of Dromornis stirtoni stay alert, as they heard the grunting from the Male Wakaleo. A few Alcoota Large Flamingo stand by, but one flies away in fear of the grunts. A looming storm in the furthest distance towers over the enviroment. With the floodplain at its max water level, this storm may prove devastating for the Alcoota Fauna/Flora.

The New Age of Reptiles: Grapplewhips Oceania, like in our timeline, is a hotspot of squamate diversity. Scincomorphan lizards are among the biggest success stories of the region. One lineage, the long-bodied predatory grapplewhips, have taken forms unlike anything in our world. (1/6)

A New Age of Reptiles: Torpedo Crocs Marine reptile diversity in the New Age of Reptiles eclipses any time in Earth's history, with thousands of species documented to date across dozens of lineages. The crocodylids, early colonisers of the Cenozoic seas, are among the most spectacular. (1/14)
A Red-Eye Torpedo, a marine crocodile with a sea-green hide and tail marked by white bands. Its forelimbs have become broad fins, but its hindlimbs have been reduced to small spurs. Its armoured skin forms ridges down its trunk, creating a hydrodynamic profile. A human silhouette beside it shows it to be around 2.5 meters long. A Sawsnout Torpedo, a gigantic coastal sea crocodile in a tightly curled posture. Its long, green-banded hide is covered in rows of scute-ridges. The deep, hypocercal tail is packed with powerful muscles. The head rapidly narrows to a thin, sawfish-like snout lined with laterally projecting teeth. A human silhouette beside shows it to be about seven meters long.A Weeping Cr'orca, a massive sea crocodile. It has a deep, wedge-shaped snout lined with conical interlocking teeth. Its diamond-shaped forelimbs have a single claw, and its hide is a subtly countershaded purplish hue marked with scars and little injuries. A streak of white and yellow run down from the eye, breaking up the uniformity of its colouration. A size comparison with a human silhouette shows it to be about 13 meters in length.

at night in the arid scrub forests of southeastern South America, a field researcher stumbles across a huge herbivorous iguanian called a Crown-of-Thorns Dragon, this adult is around 5 metres long. it stares back at the camera, its crown of large horns creating an imposing silhouette, though it doesnt seem particularly keen on moving away from the thorny shrub it's sitting under
