More irreverently, the NRSVue translated the snakes as being poisonous, not venomous - in other words, deadly if you lick them, not deadly if they bite you. The reason the bronze serpent worked was because it distracted the israelites from their serpent-licking hobby.

I have no idea how representative this is, but in the last two weeks I have had conversations with six middle/high school teachers who have told me that they want to get rid of Chromebooks and online assignments. Something seems to be shifting.

If I ever meet a medieval peasant, I’m taking them to Buffalo Wild Wings. ”Imagine a world,” I will say to them, “where for less than the wages earned in two hours at the state minimum wage, you can have a cheeseburger that has both bacon and Mac and Cheese. And plenty of beer.”

I think the US should make tax day fun. We should have parades and give out free popcorn and hot dogs to celebrate our commitment to civil society. Instead, we just get a stressful homework assignment with the threat of fines if we get the answers wrong.

I saw this movie once.
A still from Georges Méliès’s “A Trip to the Moon,” featuring a cannon pointed to the moon. There are a number of women lined up next to the cannon, and a man in military uniform appears to be signaling to a person to light the fuse. Not visible, but present in the film, is the capsule inside the cannon containing the lunar voyagers. This is how they will get to the moon.
