It's a kind of living death, a fuzzy "lock-in" that no one believes you have. NIH researchers who calculate spending versus disease burden have found it to be grotesquely underfunded. (A study in 2020 found it ranked at the bottom of the charts for the most underfunded major disorders in the US.)

There's no cure. It's usually triggered by a virus (e.g., Covid), and mostly affects those of us with XX biology. Many care providers have been erroneously taught that it's psychogenic, despite mountains of evidence proving its biological basis.

It's a serious metabolic-immune disorder triggered by exertion. It torques down like a tourniquet on your body and brain when you try to use them, unleashing a cascade of horrible, long-lasting cascade of disruptions on your other body systems. It only eases up after long periods of complete rest.

I'm a big believer in finding moments of joy in the now, and I have a lot to be thankful for. But ME/CFS is such a devastating disorder—not just for us sufferers, but also for our caregivers. And without more funding to find biomarkers, official treatments and a cure, our lives are pretty grim.

#portfolioday Hey. Despite everything, it's still Alessandro - an italian guy trying to make a living out of #pixelart. I used to work in the movie art department, but that was just a phase, MOM! I also have game asset packs (tilesets & characters mainly) for sale on my Itch and Patreon pages.
