Thanks to a full rewrite of our geometry shaders to compute shaders, #DERELIKT finally supports two (!) levels of dynamic subdivision! (It also finally runs on Apple Silicon again) I had almost given up on this distinct effect, but now we have it, just like the best PS1 games 😎

True story*: When our engineers working on #DERELIKT went to E3 2000 and saw how impressive "The World is not Enough" looks on N64 - they coaxed some extra juice out of the ol' Plustation and upgraded our bullet casings from Alien Resurrection to TWINE quality. 😎

While I can almost dig the mishmash 2006-era HD-ish aesthetic, this remaster illustrates pretty well my opinion that graphics needs to be stylistically coherent to be aestetically pleasing. Hence why #DERELIKT looks how it looks.

All lighting in #DERELIKT is painted by hand using vertex color. (Sometimes I bake lights to vertex color, but I always touch it up by hand.) It's the most fun part of the process, as it really transforms a scene!

Work on #DERELIKT essentially restarted in December 2024. While we could reuse most assets, we started from scratch on the code side. The whole story is even crazier - WAY crazier - but due to legal stuff I can't go into more detail. 😅 Things are still kinda shaky, but we'll make it somehow! ✌️

I had nothing in January 2024. Instead of giving up, I wrote to more publishers. Over a hundred in total. It took a full year, but I managed to secure new funding for #DERELIKT. The budget was smaller - I could only afford a team of three. But we'd make it work somehow. (cont.)
