UK decides against charging foreigners for museums
The government announced in March it would explore the idea of charging foreign visitors to boost funding. But after months of consultation, the culture ministry decided against the move, saying it could risk deterring domestic visitors as well.

I am doing it right now for my mother. Everyone I turn to tells me that they can’t do anything unless she agrees to it, despite my power of attorney. Meanwhile, she’s deteriorating rapidly and not capable of judging what is in her best interest.

I was wondering why I was seeing ads for Patti Lupone live in London a month after they went on sale. Turns out that they sold around 20% of the seats at the Coliseum for up to £184 a ticket. She’s on for two nights with a 25-year-old show that contains no hits. Ouch.

There‘s much to appreciate in Mamdani, but his insistence that culture isn’t a privilege of the rich is one of his strengths. It is reminiscent of how unions and the government treated it in the 1930s -art for the masses - paintings, music, opera, theater - democracy for all.
