Credit where credit's due, I've got to say that whoever's looking after #BlackLibrary for #WarhammerCommunity has really stepped things up recently. Today's announcement of a new Old World novel set in Cathay (!) makes it 9 weeks running that we've had at least one BL-related WarCom post.

Quick PSA: authors, don't do this. Got an email from an author today which started off with "I saw that you welcome review requests" (not true), then didn't actually ask for a review, but instead asked me to 'consider supporting' their writing and pointed me to a PayPal link! Yeah...don't do this.

Well would you look at that: Black Library have actually updated their NetGalley account with some new* books! Worth a look for any BL-reading reviewers... *Not actually 'new' from a reader's perspective, by quite a long stretch (Ghaz was on there previously, too). Newly added to NetGalley, though.

I’ve had STEEL TREAD on my shelf for ages, and *finally* picked it up a couple of days ago. Blasted through it in no time - loved it! Just confirms something I’ve thought for a while: that the ‘Astra Militarum’ series is easily the most consistently excellent #BlackLibrary series going right now.

AUTHOR NOTE

First published in 1895, Robert William Chambers' short story collection, The King in Yellow, is now considered a seminal text of American weird fiction, inspiring tales from H.P Lovecraft to Nic Pizzolatto's acclaimed television series, True Detective.

The book is now in the Public Domain, which means the period of copyright protection has lapsed. Now, new stories involving the characters or setting of the original work can be published.

The Coronet is written as a loose prequel to the first entry in the anthology, The Repairer of Reputations, set in Chambers' future vision of New York in 1920, three decades after he wrote it. It is intended as a companion piece to the original story, although it can be read as a standalone.

You can find a free-to-read version of The King in Yellow over on Project Gutenberg. I highly recommend you give it a read.
