I certainly hope so - I like what I've read of Evan's, so fingers crossed it's good!

Michael @ Track of Words @trackofwords.bsky.social · 02/09/2026

Unsurprisingly, the new Peter Fehervari novel is definitely the announcement I'm most hyped for! Lots of cool-sounding books coming...but I CANNOT WAIT for COLD COVENANT.

Prior to July, things had been looking really sparse for BL on the WarCom front - so it's been great to see some consistency! And this is on top of BL starting to use their NetGalley account again a few weeks ago. So yeah...good work BL/WarCom folks - please keep it up!

Credit where credit's due, I've got to say that whoever's looking after #BlackLibrary for #WarhammerCommunity has really stepped things up recently. Today's announcement of a new Old World novel set in Cathay (!) makes it 9 weeks running that we've had at least one BL-related WarCom post.

You definitely won’t be surprised to hear that their story pitch included an AI character…

Aw, thanks Tom! But yeah, a very strange approach to take 🤷‍♂️

Michael @ Track of Words @trackofwords.bsky.social · 23/08/2026

Right? It was a bold approach, but wouldn’t have been my first choice.

This is a first for me, by the way, so I know that the vast majority of authors don't do this! I get plenty of review requests, despite my site saying I'm closed to them, but at least they're usually just regular requests and not...whatever this was.

040

Michael @ Track of Words @trackofwords.bsky.social · 23/08/2026

Quick PSA: authors, don't do this. Got an email from an author today which started off with "I saw that you welcome review requests" (not true), then didn't actually ask for a review, but instead asked me to 'consider supporting' their writing and pointed me to a PayPal link! Yeah...don't do this.

Some recent book purchases, all for research purposes (some re-reads, some new to me). At this point my TBR is so completely, utterly out of control I’ve just given up worrying about it!

Michael @ Track of Words @trackofwords.bsky.social · 31/07/2026

Well would you look at that: Black Library have actually updated their NetGalley account with some new* books! Worth a look for any BL-reading reviewers... *Not actually 'new' from a reader's perspective, by quite a long stretch (Ghaz was on there previously, too). Newly added to NetGalley, though.

They haven't published any e-shorts since June. It rather looks like they're just giving up on digital short stories, which would be a massive disappointment if so.

010

Michael @ Track of Words @trackofwords.bsky.social · 04/12/2025

Same! Back when I was reviewing pretty much everything BL-related I used to read each story on my commute into work, then try and write a review that evening to post the next day. Maybe not so enthusiastic these days, but I still love seeing new stories. Sad to see BL giving up on this.

010

Michael @ Track of Words @trackofwords.bsky.social · 04/12/2025

Yeah, same - I've actually read a few more BL books this year than last year, but it's mostly been revisiting older titles!

This is the first year for a long time that I haven't done a Track of Words Advent Calendar, which is a bit sad, but you know what I've just realised? It's also the first year in over a DECADE that there's no #BlackLibrary Advent Calendar! I feel like that says a lot...

I’ve had STEEL TREAD on my shelf for ages, and *finally* picked it up a couple of days ago. Blasted through it in no time - loved it! Just confirms something I’ve thought for a while: that the ‘Astra Militarum’ series is easily the most consistently excellent #BlackLibrary series going right now.

THE CORONET BY JORDAN ACOSTA

New York, 1919.

The victory over Germany is still in the eye of the American public.

Eugene Bardin gathers vital intelligence on Coney Island for his royal masters, but things take a turn for the strange when he realises his
Imposters, secrets and madness await those who receive the Yellow Sign.

AUTHOR NOTE

First published in 1895, Robert William Chambers' short story collection, The King in Yellow, is now considered a seminal text of American weird fiction, inspiring tales from H.P Lovecraft to Nic Pizzolatto's acclaimed television series, True Detective.

The book is now in the Public Domain, which means the period of copyright protection has lapsed. Now, new stories involving the characters or setting of the original work can be published.

The Coronet is written as a loose prequel to the first entry in the anthology, The Repairer of Reputations, set in Chambers' future vision of New York in 1920, three decades after he wrote it. It is intended as a companion piece to the original story, although it can be read as a standalone.

You can find a free-to-read version of The King in Yellow over on Project Gutenberg. I highly recommend you give it a read.
