This is genuinely one of the oldest and most fundamental points about legislative authority to constrain would-be absolute kings. The king wants to govern without parliamentary oversight. Parliament says "you need us to authorize taxes and military spending." 3/

Your annual reminder of what REALLY happened: Donald Trump went on WWOR Radio on 9/11/01--yes, that very day--to say that with the collapse of the Twin Towers, he now had the tallest building in New York. Which was a good preview of things to come, in that it was both disgusting and a lie.

ICE has violated almost 100 court orders. Let me say that another way. 100 times ICE was caught brazenly ignoring the law. 100 times a court told them to immediately stop. And 100 times they ignored the order. That's an out-of-control agency that shouldn't get another dime.

Trump refers to Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson as "that new, Low IQ person"
How can the Democrats not like how the U.S. Supreme Court votes. The Democrat Justices stick together like glue, NEVER failing to wander from the warped and perverse policies, ideas, and cases put before them. They ALWAYS vote as a group, or BLOCK, even that new, Low IQ person, that somehow found her way to the bench (Sleepy Joe!). The Republican Justices don’t stick together, they give the Democrats win after win, like a 159 Billion Dollar pile of cash on a completely ridiculous Tariff decision, and nasty, one sided questions on the country destroying subject of Birthright Citizenship, something which virtually NO OTHER COUNTRY IN THE WORLD IS STUPID ENOUGH TO ALLOW. It was meant for the babies of slaves, not for the babies of Chinese Billionaires. No, certain “Republican” Justices have just gone weak, stupid, and bad, completely violating what they “supposedly” stood for. Handing over 159 Billion Dollars in Tariff refunds to people who have been Ripping Off our Country for years, is unexplainable. One little sentence would have stoped this record setting payment from having to be made. It is a travesty! Their Tariff decision was an unnecessary and expensive slap in the face to the U.S.A., and a giant victory for its opponents. If they rule against our Country on Birthright Citizenship, which they probably will, it will be even worse, if that’s possible. It will cost America massive amounts of money but, more importantly, it will cost America its DIGNITY! No, the Radical Left Democrats don’t need to “Pack the Court,” it’s already Packed! President DONALD J. TRUMP

So, yeah, seems like Brendan Carr coordinated that tweet about punishing networks for critically reporting on the Iran War with Trump -- and may have even created that meme that Trump shared on Truth Social. @brianstelter.bsky.social reports that Carr was at Mar-a-Lago this weekend.
Carr was at the president's Palm Beach resort on Saturday and was seen talking with Trump there, a club-goer confirmed to CNN.

This provides some crucial context for Carr's midday X post, which appalled free speech advocates and First Amendment scholars.

In the post, Carr threatened the licenses of local broadcasters over news coverage he deemed to be "fake." He attached one of Trump's Truth Social messages railing against "terrible reporting" about the Iran war.So not only was Carr repeating Trump's talking points, he was tweeting from Trump's club. He visits Mar-a-Lago every month or so during the winter months, recognizing (as many others in Trump's orbit have) that it's an ideal way to get face time with the president.

The timing of this weekend's visit left me wondering if Carr's team cooked up the media-centric meme graphic that Trump posted on Saturday morning. The meme celebrated Trump "reshaping the media," including several changes Carr spearheaded, such as Paramount's agreement to hire a CBS ombudsman.

Carr flew back north this morning, which I can confirm because I was on the same flight out of Fort Lauderdale.

Admitting publicly that you only want this bill that is designed to disenfranchise voters is necessary to make sure your party wins is quite a choice. The GOP has done away with subtlety and euphemisms and is now all "we need to cheat because the polls say people don't like us."
Mike Lee tweet. He's quote tweeting a tweet from "Leading Report" saying that Dems are now the favorites to win control of the Senate in 2026.

Lee says: Let’s turn this around—by passing SAVE America

Pass it onMike Lee quote tweeting MAGA influencer ALX saying:

Senate GOP, this is your sign to start doing your job and stop subverting the will of the people.

Pass the SAVE America Act.

Lee says: Republicans will lose power—likely for a long time—if we don’t get SAVE America passed

This shouldn’t be hard

It is, but failure cannot be an option

George Grosz Eclipse of the Sun, 1926
George Grosz
Eclipse of the Sun, 1926
oil on canvas

collection of the Heckscher Museum

“In Eclipse of the Sun, Grosz vividly captures the rampant political and social corruption that characterized Germany in the mid-1920s. Set against the backdrop of a city in flames, the central figure depicted is Paul von Hindenburg, the nearly-eighty-year-old president of Germany at the time this was painted, and easily recognizable for his walrus moustache. He proudly wears his military uniform, bedecked with medals and with a laurel leaf crown perched atop his bald head. Hindenburg’s portly physique is in sharp contrast to the group of slim and headless financiers in formal attire who join him around the table. They bask in the glow of a darkened sun illuminated with a dollar sign—an acknowledgment of America’s investment in Germany post-World War I. A corpulent “man of industry,” wearing a top hat and toting weapons and a miniature train under his arm, whispers discreetly in Hindenburg’s ear. But Hindenburg has focused his attention elsewhere—toward a spot just beyond the bloodied sword and funerary cross resting directly in front of him on the table. Rather bizarrely, a donkey wearing blinders decorated with the German eagle is balanced on a board tethered to a skeleton. The other participant in this motley group is a more somberly dressed but also headless man whose foot rests precariously on the prison bars below. Eclipse of the Sun was one of Grosz’s “favorite pictures” and it offers a microcosm of the Weimar Republic, alluding to the competing interests that struggled to control the fledgling democracy.”
