The American white collar workforce started working from home three days a week for like six months a year into COVID and executives so thoroughly lost their minds over this that they installed Trump II. If anything, AI will create the 7-day workweek.

I love the WaPo's AI summaries of reader comments on articles. I find they are considerably more incisive than the namby-pamby articles themselves. So I asked Claude to summarize the NYT reader comments for "How Trump Has Alienated Voters for the G.O.P." Bang on. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/08/u...
The comments are overwhelmingly unsympathetic to the disaffected Trump voters the article profiles. The most-recommended themes, by a wide margin, are that these voters turned away over gas and grocery prices rather than chaos, corruption or morality, and that none of them accept responsibility for putting him in office twice. Fausto’s line that it took “higher gas prices for them to reconsider” got about 5,000 recommends, and Barbara Kruger’s note that none of them mentioned “Trump’s lack of morality” got about 4,600. Many readers ask some version of “how could you not have seen this coming,” pointing to Jan. 6, the bankruptcies and New Yorkers who “knew from the beginning.” A sizable minority puts more of the blame on the Republican Congress that let him “run amok.” Plenty of commenters say they don’t believe the story at all: they think Trump voters are hard to poll, will “fall in line” on Election Day, and that the press has hyped a blue wave before. Others worry less about the voters than about Trump trying to rig or contest the midterms. A smaller but notable set of self-described lifelong Republicans say they’re not staying home but voting straight Democratic. A few commenters push back on the scorn, saying the “smugness” and “bludgeoning” of these voters is why Democrats keep losing them and that the party should focus on cost of living. Tavernise herself chimed in, saying that after talking to Republican voters since 2016, this is the first time she’s heard such a clear break from Trump.

And, as I said at the start, none of this addresses the very real harms that LLMs have already wrought, and will continue to do so. We cannot let vague concerns about AI safety escape from what this industry has done and will continue to do. www.wheresyoured.at/ai-is-alread...
There are, however, things we can do, per former FTC Chair Lina Khan, if we actually had any interest in doing so:

There is an extensive set of laws that govern dangerous and defective products. For example, releasing unvetted AI models or agents can violate consumer protection laws. Shipping flawed AI tools without implementing adequate measures to detect and stop rogue or defective AI agents can be an “unfair or deceptive” act or practice under the FTC Act (and analogous state laws). And some state AGs are already exploring holding AI firms and their CEOs criminally liable when their models participate in criminal activity.
If LLMs were a toy, they’d be taken off the shelves. If LLMs were a drug, they would be banned.

I agree that we need to take “AI safely” seriously, but that starts with treating LLMs as normal software run in a reckless and dangerous manner by malevolent entities with little regard for society.
