I had forgotten how much I enjoyed watching Andy Rooney until @sfotony.bsky.social brought him up today. Now I've spent a bunch of time watching old YouTube videos of him. One of the good ones I've come across so far that I can still totally relate to. www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDvs...

I can't believe looking Hispanic or speaking Spanish is now evidence of a crime. That's next level racist bullshit! On the flip side, does that mean we can start arresting the ultra rich on suspicion of embezzlement & other crimes just because they are rich? That's what that ruling implies, right?

So weird how no one invented "looking busy at work despite not being busy" until recently. You'd think someone would've come up with that before now, but no, it's a new trend, with a name that is definitely real and commonly used.

Forbes article:
Clock Botching’: Why It’s Trending And 4 Signs To Spot It At Work
By Bryan Robinson, Ph.D.,Contributor. author of Chained to the Desk in a Hybrid World: A Guide to Balance.

Sep 03, 2025, 06:00am EDT

What's causing the new trend known as "clock botching"—when employees are clocked in but not engaged with their work. What are the signs? And what strategies can business leaders use to help disengaged employees?

There’s a new workplace trend on the rise called “clock botching,” when employees look busy, but aren’t actually producing meaningful results. Unlike presenteeism, where sick employees still show up, “clock botching” manifests in employees stretching small tasks into entire afternoons and keeping their calendars full while disengaging emotionally from their work. The trend has led to employee under performance and productivity and a dip in the company’s bottom line. But why is “clock botching” trending? And what can companies do about it?

Do we have metrics on how often LLMs generate similar blocks of code across the industry? Most software being developed isn't unique, and it seems we'd be better served by new frameworks, and higher level abstractions. But then we're back to the discovery problem, something LLMs seem to help with.
