The answer is in body language. If they’re distressed, then it’s distressing. Lip licking, ear position, whale eye, head reorientation (to ignore) can be subtle indicators. (My dog gets real elevated by hide & seek.) If they’re bored then either they’re not impressed or it makes no sense to them.
