A new release for Applied Machine Learning for Tabular Data at aml4td.org We've written a substantial chapter on (single) trees, a little more on neural networks, and fixed many typos. Another release will come soon, including the entire neural net chapter, covering DL and foundational models.

We're happy to announce our new #rstats package: lorax. If you fit tree-based models, lorax enables conversion to the party package's format (for making nice tree diagrams) and has methods to compute which features were used, the number of terminal nodes, etc. opensource.posit.co/blog/2026-07...

Working in early drug discovery required some optimistic cognitive dissonance for me. My prior belief was higher (~95%) but we still had to work as hard as possible to see if we could make it work.

Apropos of something I'm working on right now: It's great to use Claude to break down technical walls and perform tasks that you wouldn't have otherwise been capable of. But you MUST still fully understand what you're trying to do and how you (and Claude) are doing it. You need to be driving.

I've just tried Posit Assistant on the free plan and must say, I'm impressed. Using the super-cheap Gemma 4 26B model (10% cost of Sonnet) on free plan it worked instantly. Hats of to the #posit team for integrating this into RStudio and allowing people to test with free plan!

We've released the first version of our tabpfn #rstats package to CRAN. This is an interface to the Python #TabPFN package. tidyverse.org/blog/2026/03... The model is a pre-trained deep learning model that has performed exceedingly well on every data set I've tested it on.
