Ideally, double that, and stagger the term limits. But yes, 13 would be a good start.

And the third one, "Love," is a charming little story about a middle-aged female doctor and her gay male assistant, and how they keep love in their lives, even without being partnered. All three films are absolutely human and charming, and they're on the Criterion Channel right now. Dig. 📽️#Filmsky

A ★★★★½ review of Love (2024)
Dag Johan Haugerud's Oslo Sex/Dreams/Love trilogy is kind of a misnomer; all three films in the series spend a good amount of time in all three arenas of human interaction. In fact, Love might actuall...

"Dreams," a story about a teenager who writes a novel about her crush on a teacher's assistant, is almost completely devoid of men. A potentially dicey premise that's dealt with empathetically and artfully. Too much voiceover, but excellent use of stairs. 📽️#Filmsky

A ★★★★ review of Dreams (2024)
Whereas Sex was firmly a male-centered experience (in a good, thoughtful way), Dreams is as much a female reading of subconscious desire; almost completely devoid of men, the story sits in an internal...

"Sex," a story about two chimney sweeps who both have weird internal thoughts, isn't so much about sex as it is about two fairly manly men being truly emotionally honest with each other.

A ★★★½ review of Sex (2024)
"Sex" is about actual sex in the same way that, oh, "Dead Poets Society" is about actual poetry. It's relevant to the story, but really it's more an on-ramp to discuss the thornier question of capital...

Good news: I've managed to watch the entirety of the Oslo Trilogy this week, and it was lovely the whole way through. Bad news: It was Dag Johan Hagerud's Oslo Trilogy, not the Joachim Trier set. Oops. Good news: it was still great, and well worth watching. Lovely, human, warm, empathetic.

They may not consider another Canadian for a generation, so it can't be someone too... close to the Rainbow Bridge. (This is a veiled request for more Canadian literary authors, of any gender. I'm a little bit out of the game these days, and I'd like to stay in.)

I'm idly wondering if there's a Canadian man who could conceivably win the Literature Nobel someday, seeing as the women currently have that portfolio on lock. Yann Martel, maybe? Rohinton Mistry? Ondaatje?

Anne Carson is a hell of a good writer, and awarding another Canadian woman so soon after the last one might be a way for the Nobel Committee to give themselves a do-over, after the drama of Alice Munro. Per the announcement, Miz Carson is listening to the wind in Iceland at the moment.

Fun fact about square dance in American schools: it was Henry Ford's idea. He thought jazz was too black & "ethnic," so he put tons of money and effort into pushing "white" culture onto children before they could learn better. Henry Ford was EXTREMELY racist. Like, he got a shoutout in Mein Kampf.
