This is part of what I'm referring to with many people demanding stories that reassure them they're a good person. They want the moral instruction because otherwise, rather than processing the reading experience, there's a thrum of "am I bad? am I bad? what if someone finds out I'm bad?"

stories about abuse are allowed to exist without reducing themselves to moral instruction. i think sometimes when people complain about the “romanticization” of abuse, what they're actually objecting to isn't necessarily the way abuse is being represented, but the fact that the representation doesn't provide them with constant moral reassurance. like, there is a difference between “this story frames abuse as desirable or inherently romantic” and “this story depicts abuse in an erotic/ambiguous/complicated way and doesn't repeatedly tell me that abuse is bad, therefore the depiction itself is irresponsible.”

there is a certain type of personality that simply loves to be the bearer of bad news but perpetually couches it in "being honest" or "the only adult in the room". it is because they enjoy hurting people but want to be able to maintain the moral high ground. after all, they're just the messenger!

TLDR: Steal ideas, tweak them to your needs, get asked questions about your OCs, and if you want to get extreme, play as them

So in conclusion, if you want to do more with your OCs beyond just their design, take inspiration from other sources of media, write about what they do, how they fight, what they're like to talk to. Hell, you don't even need to write about it, just *imagine it.* Ask yourself questions about them, or have other people ask those questions for you.

And if you want to do something TRULY large with them, look into DND or other TTRPGs. Even if you don't FEEL creative, these kinds of things will force you to start THINKING that way. And Creativity is a muscle that needs to be built, so even if you suck are thinking creatively, it will only get easier as you do it more
