FREE ADVICE: so, there's a filmmaking concept called "business." "Business" is, essentially, the stuff your character does while talking. Fixing a car engine, ice skating, eating an ice cream cone, ducking gunfire. You gotta give your characters "business" so they're not just standing there yappin'.

At the screening last night Tony Gilroy spoke about why a lot of people in creative fields are progressive. I forget his exact phrasing but basically it’s because you have to have empathy in order to make something that speaks to people. Refreshing to hear empathy talked about as a positive.

one argument I have for the value of taking Star Wars (and other sf/fantasy, but Star Wars is my thing) seriously as a politically-coherent setting is that there's a lot of exploration of ideas that you can do in Star Wars that's just too loaded in non-heightened reality

Something I haven't seen mentioned elsewhere: In "Andor" S2E1, Cassian steals a TIE Avenger with unusual two-handed controls, which he struggles with at first. In "Rogue One," the controls on the Scarif Data Vault are virtually identical -- and he picks them up very fast.

To some extent I understand where people are coming from when they say they don’t enjoy something like Andor because it “ isn’t Star Wars,” but I also feel like this mindset limits the creative potential of Star Wars projects.

I finished watching Andor season two last night and (to the surprise of no one) I thought it was incredibly compelling and thematically rich, and I hope this isn’t the last time for a while that a creative and narratively satisfying story is released to a wide audience under the Star Wars umbrella.
