Absolute Batman | sketch cover commish This one was a fun one, a double page front and back with the chainsaw in one hand and the axe in the other. I went for some of those same color combinations from Absolute Batman, with the greens, pinks, oranges and yellows all bouncing off each other.

Usagi Yojimbo | Kaito ’84 Commish Where the X-Men ’97 Wolverine was all neon, I pushed this into a softer pastel palette to give it more of that ’80s feel. This interpretation of Usagi by Stan Sakai, Zack Rosenberg and Jared Cullum is probably my favorite since the late ’80s/early ’90s.

D’orc | 3 card sketch card commish Had some fun treating these three cards like one little action sequence. D’orc jumps in, lands on the Ogre’s arm, runs up it and drops a bomb in his ear, then keeps moving while the whole thing goes off behind him like a tiny comic seq.

X-Men ’97 Wolverine | bust sketch cover commish Went full ’90s neon on this one, pushed the background pretty hard and gave Wolverine some extra long claws because it ain’t Wolverine if the claws don’t even fit in the damn arm.

Vampirella | Sketchcover Commish This one had a LOT going on, so I had to keep the scribble under control before it turned into visual soup. Went with more of that classic animation approach and painted the background with acrylic gouache to keep everything from getting too muddy.

Wolverine | sketch cover commish Bust lines are done! It ain't a 90s Wolverine if the claws actually fit in his arms. Gonna get this transferred onto the book and then wrap up the Kaito ’84 lines next. One Wolverine down, one Kaito ’84 to go.

Black Panther | sketch cover commish Every now and then you get one of these older sketch covers from the 2010–2013 era, and the coating they used makes the damn things a workout to draw on. Still got it done though, because apparently I enjoy making my life harder. 🤣

D’orc "Bomb Orgre Blitz" | sketchcard commish Time for a little action sequence. D’orc jumps in, lands on the Red Ogre’s arm, runs up, tosses a bomb into his ear, then keeps moving while the whole thing blows up behind him. Basically my Empire Strikes Back AT-AT moment.

Tombstone | Sketchcover Commish Tombstone is one of those characters where the silhouette does a LOT of the heavy lifting. I wanted to push the shapes a little but still keep him reading immediately, then use the splatter and color to fill out the canvas.

Sketchcraft - Rob Duenas @sketchcraft.bsky.social · 24/09/2026

Star Fox | 2 card sketchcard commish I tried to keep Fox a little less loose and more stylized with this one, but still clean enough that the shapes stay readable. With some of those iconic anime characters, the more you push the exaggeration, the easier it is for everything to start losing shape.

Knightfall Bane | 8x8 Chonk Live Demo Had a blast drawing this one live on Whatnot last night. Watercolor background with marker and colored pencil on Bane. Chonk is all about pushing those proportions, big ass body, tiny little legs.

If Wizard Magazine was around today, Spider-Punk would be plastered on every other cover with some psychotic, hyper-aggressive tagline like "SPIDER-PUNK! LIQUIDATE YOUR SAVINGS TO OWN THE MOST EXTREME SLABS OF ANARCHY EVER PRINTED! BUY THREE COPIES OR DIE!"

Chapel Spawn | Unused Cover Pitch Found an old Chapel Spawn sketch in the archives and decided to take another swing at it as a possible variant cover. Sadly, it was a no-go, but I still really liked the idea, so I figured it was worth finishing up and sharing anyway.

Absolute Batman Sketch Cover Commish - One of two Absolute Batman commish covers wrapped! Full figure makes the scribbly stuff a little tricky because it can muddy up fast, so I had to keep the lines a bit more controlled, but there’s still plenty of scribble in there.

let's be honest, TMNT and Daredevil should’ve teamed up 40 years ago. I mean, come on, it’s right there. Somebody needs to make this happen already. lol

TMNT / Daredevil split sketch cover commish Final colors are wrapped! This one was a real challenge to work out, mostly because I wanted to invert the red and green on each side while still making the whole thing feel like one connected image.

Legend of Zelda | Game Pages Been doing these since third grade, trying to draw what it feels like to play a game. The challenge: Master Sword to Ganon in 3 pages. Basically, sketchbook ideation disguised as playing Zelda. Three pages, one whole game, zero strategy guide. lol

Invincible vs. Conquest | Page Jam This is actually a scan because apparently I forgot to take a photo before I shipped this one out. Dumbass me 😂 These are super rough and fast, I lay everything out with marker, then jump straight into color. This whole thing was probably around 90 minutes.

Atom Eve | Invincible 2 Card Sketchcards Winner’s Pick from yesterday’s Whatnot stream! Two card sketch set, got to give Eve the full treatment on this one. Love how the pink and orange came together. Also... I might have a four card uncut version coming up on my next show… hint hint 👀

Spider-Man 2099 vs Venom 2099 Page Jam This was done live on my Whatnot stream yesterday. This is pretty much how I develop ideas, just loose and spontaneous on the page with no real plan going in. I’ll usually do 6–12 of these for a project, pulling out key moments and figuring out shapes.

Morning Warm-ups: Just a straight-up chroma Page Jam. No grand plan, just drawing Wolverine until the page starts looking like a stack of old X-Men trading cards exploded on my desk.

Just caught episode 2 of Lantern's and I am really digging how much this show trusts the audience. They're letting the story breathe and showing you what's going on with the characters and the world instead of dumping a ton of exposition. Ended up opening the sketchbook for a quick Page Jam.

TMNT / Daredevil Split Sketchcover WIP Alright, lines are done on this one. I’m really digging how the split is coming together, especially with the Daredevil side starting to feel like it belongs right alongside the TMNT side. Now we just gotta get inking & laying in the color.

Vampirella Sketchcover WIP Alright, enough ruffy nonsense. Time to actually slap this thing onto the sketch cover and start throwing some color at it. Now let’s see if I can make this thing look as ridiculous in real life as it does in my head.

Jean Grey 3 card sketchcard commish Roughing out a 3 card Jean Grey sketchcard in her classic Marvel Girl getup. Her mask is always a little tricky too because it’s got such a Wolverine thing going on. You’d think at some point Jean would’ve been like, “Hey Logan, I kinda dig your mask too.” lol

Blue Marvel Sketchcover Commish: Blue Marvel! Big shoutout to Kevin Grevioux and Mat Broome for creating this dude. Characters built around one dominant color are always a fun little design puzzle, but Blue Marvel gave me a LOT of blue to play with. Really happy with how this one came together.

Galactus demands a little pink. This one was ordered as a line art commission, but I had to sneak a little Chroma into the mix. A few blasts of hot pink, a little yellow glow, and suddenly the big guy starts feeling a little cosmic.

It's funny how changing one costume changes the whole personality. That old McFarlane trading card set has been rattling around in my head since the Wizard Magazine days, I finally scratched the itch and did my own take on one of those cards. Then I made two...

SPIDER MAN PAGE JAM: I can pull 3 or 4 solid ideas out of a sheet like these jams. I get a little self conscious sharing these because they’re definitely not supposed to be “perfect drawings,” but that’s kinda the point, ideation over perfection.

TMNT + Daredevil is such a no-brainer I can’t believe they never did it. I always wanted to see that crossover back in the day, so when Matt asked for this sketch cover, I had to go there. I’m doing another one for Brandon too, Fortnite vs Marvel Rival versions.
