Seen quite a few people talk about how Zoro communicates in various ways lately and, being the narcissist that I am about my own fic, I keep thinking about this one scene from my ghost hunter au. I miss writing I should do it again

He slid his hands around to cup Sanji’s elbows. Sanji’s hands gripped Zoro’s forearms in return, his callouses telling the truth he kept swallowing. “Come on, mate,” Zoro muttered. “It’s just me.”

Sanji sighed, tipping forward to hide his face in the exact spot Luffy had a few hours ago. The same spot in Zoro’s chest cracked open. “It’s stupid,” he muttered. “I’m stupid.”

Zoro blinked at the wall of knives on the magnet strip over the prep counter. “No, you’re not,” he argued, bleeding all over their shared body heat.

Sanji’s breath hissed down his front. “It’s just…”

The dining room noise exploded. Who the fuck–? “Oops!” a voice Zoro didn’t recognize yipped. “My bad!” The door closed, leaving them alone once more, but the damage was done. Sanji was a bowstring in Zoro’s arms again, lip in his teeth and eyebrows tight. Great, now Zoro had to start all over. Pain in the ass.

Sanji pushed back, hands splayed on Zoro’s ribs, chin tucked tight to his chest as he fought, canines bared. Fuck it, Zoro was done with this avoidance bullshit.

He grabbed Sanji by the jaw, lifting it so he would finally look Zoro in the face. “Hey.” Sanji’s red eyes narrowed. Zoro grit his teeth. “Talk to me, asshole.”

Sanji swallowed. Zoro felt it against the backs of his fingers. “Oh, like you’re one to talk,” he bit back. Man, fuck him and his fight-or-fight defense mechanisms, but – ugh. If – if they were going to do – this, then…

Zoro sighed. “Fine.” Sanji blinked. Zoro let go of his chin. Oh, he’d messed up Sanji’s beard. He combed it straight with a few flicks of his nails, Sanji’s bottom lip bouncing each time. “Not right now,” Zoro said, eyes darting to the unlockable door between them and everyone they knew. “Later. But… if you’ll tell me your shit, then I’ll tell you mine, I guess.” He shrugged. “We’ve got time, don’t we?”

Sanji stared at him, color spotting on his cheeks like a seeping stain. “I can’t believe it,” he breathed, eyebrows drawn tight over wide eyes, pink mouth…

My grandmother worked at the Main Street store for years and Mr. Marcus always talked to my dad when he was a kid. He always emphasized to my dad that business was something you learn on the job so if you go to college, do something in the liberal arts or fine arts to expand your mind.
