Composite plot of the two coseismic interferograms (Sentinel-1, from Copernicus) with the USGS epicenters of the two earthquakes and faults from GEM. The shoreline San Sebastián fault lines up with the fringes in the west and is probably the fault responsible.

Pre- and post-eruption visible imagery of #HayliGubbi from #Sentinel-2, showing tephra deposits and 2 new craters. The latter could be eruption vents and/or formed by post-eruptive subsidence. Looks like the pre-existing crater was enlarged by the eruption. @esa.int

Activity at Hayli Gubbi began in July when there was an eruption at Erte Ale. Magma propagated 30 km south passing under Hayli Gubbi. Since then, there has been a small plume, quasi-continuous SO2 emissions and uplift. Details in @uk-comet.bsky.social event response report: tinyurl.com/y3nfdfj8

Apparently surface rupture during the Myanmar 2025. I'm very surprised by the weak shaking along the rupture. I'm not sure if this is the main rupture (I would say no - nonetheless, VERY COOL). Author unknown, location Thazi (to be confirmed)

Last night satellite #Sentinel1C launched into space! It will join its sibling to restore the Sentinel-1 constellation, gathering more frequent, global, accurate data to monitor changes on the Earth's surface. It will aid COMET research into #volcanoes🌋and #earthquakes🌎 and support event response.

OK, I've figured how how I'm going to procrastinate today. This little utility spells out your name (or any word, of course... procrastination!) using features in Landsat imagery. Here's "Steve": landsat.gsfc.nasa.go...

The S is a winding river; the T is a line of greenery in desert intersecting the edge of a dunefield; the first E is a spiral sandbar just off a beach; the V is a lake in a spruce forest; and the final E is (I think) a set of treed ridgelines against an untreed lower elevation background.

Lots of people know that prehistoric sea turtles got big, but it can be easy to underestimate just how huge these things got. The largest verified specimen of a modern Leatherback turtle weighed in at 1,433 lbs, but this Archelon would have been closer to 11,300 lbs. #scicomm #paleosky #paleontology
