Since Trevor Story's game-tying home run in Game 2 vs. the Yankees last year, the Red Sox have sent 78 men to bat in the postseason against the Yankees without scoring another run. 10-for-73 (.137 BA), 4 walks, 27 strikeouts (35%).

#Apple really needs to build some empathy into its software. My iPhone knows I follow the Red Sox, that they played a postseason game last night at 8 p.m., and that they got shelled. So, my Apple Watch should be smart enough to *not give me crap* about a bad night's sleep the moment I wake up.

At least it’s hockey season.

Well, that game sucked. Only baseball bright spot of the day so far was the White Sox winning.

Of course opening night of hockey, which started at 5 p.m., would go to OT and somehow manage to overlap with an 8 p.m. baseball game #LetsGoCanes #DirtyWater

Rough break for Sale, who had a good outing. Left the game with the lead and two runners on and now could potentially get the loss. (Not that I'm rooting for Atlanta, I'm just a fan of Chris Sale when he's not on the injured list.)

I love this post by @haughey.com re: his recent visit to Tokyo DisneySea, *especially* this bit about his favorite ride (which is my favorite at TDS, too.) a.wholelottanothing.org/what-its-lik...
My favorite ride was an underrated one I would have skipped unless I read about how good it was, and that was the Sinbad Seven Seas ride. It had one of the shortest lines of the day and the ride itself was ridiculously long, probably on the order of 15 minutes as a boat ride. Honestly, it was everything that a modern version of It’s A Small World could be. There were hundreds of animatronics in room after room, and each had working eyebrows and eyes that tracked your boat while they sang tunes, with some characters having projections and special lighting too.

Best part of this post isn't the catch (which is, of course, incredible). It's that game one of the 1954 World Series was on September 29!

Tonight (Tues 9/29) & tomorrow (Weds 9/30) at 8pm ET, I'm livestreaming from home via facebook.com/7thinningstretch2020, taking song requests while you watch the Red Sox play their first two 2026 playoff games down in the Bronx. Raising money for GREATER BOSTON FOOD BANK and FOOD BANK FOR NEW YORK.
I'm wearing a Red Sox jersey and smiling while sitting in my living room playing an organ that's nearly the exact same model as the one at Fenway. There are a few pieces of old-school baseball memorabilia on top of the organ.

I’ve lived all my life where the “close doors” elevator button does nothing so it’s truly remarkable to be in Japan where the same button instantly closes the doors on every elevator you board.

I plowed through most of Peter Gammons' new book last night. I've only seen a handful of pieces of publicity for it. It's like a long, extended version of Diamond Notes telling only warmhearted baseball and people stories. I'm guessing it'll be a big holiday gift season book.

DisneySea is blowing me away with the level of detail in every inch of the park. I got dinner in the Frozen land and this is two dining rooms out of five. Every beam is hand painted. The wall art is original oil paintings. The lighting is phenomenal, all for a quick service restaurant.

"Pearls Before Swine" comic strip from September 13, 2026

A six-panel comic strip featuring Rat, Pig, and Wrench.

Panel 1, Outdoors
Pig: Where you headed, Willy the Wrench?
Wrench: To check out the inside of my house. I just had it painted.

Panel 2, Outdoors
Pig: How come you had it painted?
Wrench: To cheer myself up.

Panel 3, Outdoors
Wrench: You see, Pig, I was at a real low point in my life... didn't know if I was gonna make it. But I'm friends with a very kind female pig who knows I love the color gray. So she volunteered to paint my house various shades of gray.

Panel 4, Outdoors
Pig: Well that was nice of her.
Wrench: Yeah. Now I just want to see how it looks.

Panel 5, In Wrench's House
Pig: Well, what do you think?
Wrench: Amazing grays! How sweet the sow, that saved a wrench like me!

Panel 6, In a room, with Rat on a desk and Pig behind it
Rat, holding a baseball bat, with a star in the air, seemingly above an injured Wrench on the floor: He once was lost, but now is down.

I find it fascinating how little general interest there is in Apple events. Years ago, my timeline would have been filled with people hyped about products. Now, I feel like almost everyone is thinking, "I bought the 'best ever (product X)' last year, I definitely don't need a new one."

When I read replies to posts on Bluesky, it’s always the knuckleheads who couldn’t spend 2 minutes to upload a profile picture who are the most troublesome. Bluesky should add a feature to auto-mute people who don’t have a custom profile picture. That would considerably improve discussions here.

RIP Wendell Berry. Here's his poem, "Questionnaire"
1. How much poison are you willing
to eat for the success of the free
    market and global trade? Please
    name your preferred poisons.

2. For the sake of goodness, how much
evil are you willing to do?
    Fill in the following blanks
with the names of your favorite
    evils and acts of hatred.

3. What sacrifices are you prepared
to make for culture and civilization?
     Please list the monuments, shrines,
and works of art you would
     most willingly destroy.

4. In the name of patriotism and
the flag, how much of our beloved
land are you willing to desecrate?
     List in the following spaces
     the mountains, rivers, towns, farms
you could most readily do without.

5. State briefly the ideas, ideals, or hopes,
the energy sources, the kinds of security,
for which you would kill a child.
     Name, please, the children whom
you would be willing to kill.
