It really irritates me that, despite the news being full of reports of drought and wildfires, almost all the weather forecast presenters adopt a jolly, upbeat tone when talking about 'fine, dry weather' and a slightly glum tone when mentioning the odd places where there will be a few showers.

If true, we get 3 things. None good. 1. The direct negative growth/fiscal impacts of cutting immigration. 2. A Chancellor who prioritises their own personal/ideological obsessions over the UK economy. 3. A PM who through myopia or weakness chooses 1 and 2.

British drama school training is the envy of the world and, as more film + TV jobs are moving to the UK, our drama schools are the backbone of a global industry. These cuts are artistic vandalism and economic stupidity.

Amazing ancient Lurs from Bronze Age Denmark. Thirty-nine of these bronze horns have been found in Danish peat bogs, likely deposited as ritual offerings some 3,000 years ago! Fun fact: Lurs are the inspiration behind the name and logo of Denmark’s Lurpak® butter! 🧈 🎺 🇩🇰 #FindsFriday #Archaeology
My photo shows a museum display of ancient bronze lurs which are long, curved musical horns from the Nordic Bronze Age.

The horns hang from almost invisible wires attached to the top of the display case, creating the impression that they are floating in mid-air. They twist and loop in different directions, forming an intricate three-dimensional arrangement which transforms a collection of archaeological objects into a dramatic sculptural installation. The horns are dark greyish-brown in colour. Their tubing curves in broad arcs before ending in wide, flared bells that resemble oversized trumpet bells.

Behind the suspended horns are glass display cases containing smaller Bronze Age artefacts., The gallery has white walls, bright overhead lighting, black-framed glass display cases, and a wooden parquet floor..

They are on display at the National Museum of Denmark in Copenhagen.

I have a student son Henry Nowak’s age & I can’t imagine what it took for his family to respond outside court with the grace they did, asking that their son’s death not be used for division and hate. That Reform & Restore chose to throw that back in their faces makes me feel sick.

NEW from me: many of our universities are now in a dying fall. A new global-national-regional-local split is opening up, which could choke off progress on almost all the Government's plans. Do they have a plan? Nope, nothing, not a clue. 👇 isrf.org/blog/whats-t...

The news I'm getting from the University of Sussex is that the overwhelming majority of the students are delighted and consider it a victory. Maybe the "Office for Students" might like to take the actual students into account.

The question I ask with any article is: what do I actually know and think about this topic? Essay = assay. This means sometimes my final piece is different to what I thought it would be. "What is your angle?" I am sometimes asked before filing. - I dunno, I reply, I have not written it yet.

The only precedents I can think of a PM losing the confidence of the House of Commons on an issue of national security or similar are Chamberlain and Eden. Not good for Starmer. Yes, we have had weak PMs drag on, but not when they have lost the confidence of MPs on national security.

McSweeney going makes no difference to the quoted point below. Starmer has lost the confidence of the House of Commons on a matter of national security. It is difficult to see any PM surviving that easily. And now there's the Mandeson document disclosure exercise over which he has no control.
