I really enjoy using #Blender for video editing, in addition to 3D modeling. In previous Blender LTS versions, I used Add > Effect > Speed Control to change the video speed. In Blender 5.2 LTS, it’s much simpler — Strip > Retiming > Set Speed is all I need.

Just watched an “AI” ad, and they’re like save time and what’ll I do with that saved time. And I’m like, you’re going to spend the next two hours vetting and editing because idiots just let the output go unreviewed. Hell, in normal ways, u’d vet the info as you go, write it, proof it, proof again

the pass that fixed my edits: watch the cut back muted at 1.5x before you touch audio. no dialogue, no music — every dead frame and every shot i held a beat too long shows up on its own. then flip it and listen with the screen ignored. two passes, more caught than a night of rewatching.

I hate that I find myself writing and editing my videos in ways that will make them easier to clip into shorts. I hate that this is where my mindset has gone. It makes me wonder if I’m even making this video for me or if I’m just preparing a new sacrifice for the almighty algorithm.

ten clips a week scheduled out beats thirty dumped on a sunday. an audience doesn't watch a backlog, it watches whatever is in front of it. i used to stack clips until i had a run of good ones and then post the lot. the flat weeks are the ones that actually hold the account together.

i like to use blender. they have a decently good video editing window and it doesn't leave any annoying watermarks because everything inside that programme is free plus, it's blender, so it has plenty of tutorials about how to use it on the internet

everyone asks what a campaign pays per 1k views. the number that actually decides my month is how many finished clips i can get out of one stream. a good rate you can't feed enough clips into is just nicer-looking maths.

every 'who uses AI for video editing' thread ends the same way: people want the tool to hand them the cut. dead air, false starts, the take where you finally said it right - that pass is genuinely solved now. knowing which moment was worth clipping is still the human half, and the expensive one.

clients don't watch the whole batch. they watch clip one and decide how much they trust the rest. i used to deliver in the order i cut them. now the strongest one goes first in the folder — and the rest actually get watched instead of skimmed.

clients kept saying a batch felt 'off'. it wasn't the clips — the captions were landing a beat late and on a phone that reads as sloppy. same cut, unchanged, only the timing one notch earlier. i slow-watch every batch once now. ten minutes that saves the whole redelivery.

the edit isn't the work. the b-roll pass is. two hours of source footage, scrolling for the three seconds where his hands actually move. now i log the timecodes while i watch, before the timeline exists. the cut takes twenty minutes; the search was eating the afternoon.

the real trap is two takes that are 90% the same. i'll burn twenty minutes picking between them and the viewer sees one of them once. i cut the first one now and move on — if the difference only exists at my desk, it isn't a difference.

i stopped rendering after every clip. used to export each one the moment it was cut, and half the session went to watching a progress bar. now the whole batch renders together at the end and i set up the next one while it runs. same exports, an hour back.

i keep a folder called maybe. clips that are nearly there. opened it this week and half of them were fine — i'd just been too close to them to see it. leaving them two days and watching on a different screen is the whole fix. distance is a tool, not a delay.

half my reframes die in the crop. the original is 16:9 and the shot i love is the subject dead centre, so 9:16 either clips them or leaves a wall of empty room behind. now i read the framing on the tight shots before i pull the clip, not after.

Honestly the combination of that and also video editing is probably why I could not make it as a youtuber if I tried. I've been thinking about making my own videos and upload them to my Neocities even if it means less views, cuz, I just don't think I could survive the youtube grind.

i watch every cut on my phone with the sound off before i send it. not because audio doesn't matter — because if the frame alone doesn't tell me what's happening, i'm betting the viewer has their sound on, and most of them don't. if it can't read muted, it isn't finished.

the clip that makes me laugh in the raw stream is usually the one i never export. it lands because of the forty seconds before it, and a short doesn't get forty seconds. i stopped picking moments by how much i loved them and started picking the ones that already read cold. the laugh is a bad test.

client said make it punchier. what they meant: the setup ran nine seconds before anything happened. punchier is almost never more cuts or louder music. i trimmed the intro to one line, kept the edit identical, and they loved it. same cut, they just reached it sooner.

cleaned a client folder tonight: 40 delivered clips and half were named final_final_v2. producing them took a day, finding one again took another. now every export gets source_take_note before it leaves the timeline. the last pass went from an hour to ten minutes.

cutting is mostly deciding what doesn't belong. a stream has dead air, a sip, a joke that lands flat — keep the laugh, drop the breath it took to get there. the rhythm a good short has isn't what the speaker said, it's the silence you carve around it.

tiffanypastecf.bsky.social @tiffanypastecf.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
most of a short gets judged before the first word. if the first frame is a fade-in or a logo, that swipe is half gone. i start on the moment — a face mid-laugh, the question, text already up — and earn the title after. the hook isn't the first line, it's how fast the eye finds a reason to stay.
000 0
tiffanypastecf.bsky.social @tiffanypastecf.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
the crop to 9:16 is a decision, not a resize. a wide horizontal frame can hold two people mid-argument; vertical forces a pick. i punch in on the one reacting — the face, not the wide — because that's where a short lives or dies. a resize keeps everyone; an edit chooses who it's about.

the way i time captions changed when i caught myself mouthing along with them. if the eye finishes a line before the speaker does, that beat is dead on a short. now i cut captions to the breath — in on the phrase, out on the pause — so the read lands with the word instead of a beat after it.

when a client says 'the dog bit' i don't scrub two hours of source hoping to spot it. i transcribe first, search the word, jump straight to the clip. finding a moment by keyword beats finding it by ear — it's the slowest part of the job and it never got faster on its own.

tiffanypastecf.bsky.social @tiffanypastecf.bsky.social · 06/09/2026
this week's real time sink wasn't the cut, it was version control on feedback — 'try a bolder font' against which export round, on which clip? now every round gets a name and a timecode, so when they pick the font from round two i don't re-cut to find it. knowing what we chose is half the job.

every platform normalizes audio to its own loudness — a mix that's fine in my headphones ends up tiny in one feed, blown out in another. i now measure true peak and integrated loudness before export. it's headroom so the app doesn't crush the mix, not 'make it quieter'.
