In case you need a break from the awfulness, here's an embroidered jellyfish I finished last night--my latest project to avoid doomscrolling before bed.

Black background with a jellyfish embroidered in bright greens, blues, and yellow mixed with orange flowers.

Feeling... rough. Lately.

Panel 1:
"I make art for a living."
Drawing character art on a tablet

Panel 2:
"It feels... Questionable right now."
Drawing interrupted by a news alert

Panel 3:
"So much horror and pain all around us... And it feels like it's getting worse every day."
Cait staring at her tablet while news alerts ping loudly

Panel 1:
"What the hell am I doing."
Cait takes off her glasses and rubs her eyes, the news alerts are louder and more frightening

Panel 2:
"I'm drawing pretty pictures while the world is on fire. While families are torn apart. While war and genocide become daily news. While my country is held hostage by bigots who want me and the people I love to die."
Cait holds her head in her hands, overwhelmed by pinging alerts

Panel 1:
"But I can't think that way. ...not every day, at least..."
Cait balls her fists, grimacing with tears on her face

Panel 2:
"I love what I do. And I work in entertainment - providing beauty and escapism for my audience."
She puts her glasses back on and picks up her tablet pen, sniffling

Panel 1:
"We need art in turbulent times. People need escape from the horrors. And if I can provide that - then I'm being helpful."
Cait starts drawing, but the pinging alerts are on the rise again.

Panel 2:
"I'm being helpful. I'm being helpful... I'm being helpful... I'm helpful... Helpful..."
She draws, trembling, as the alerts swell around her.

✨ Show me how you draw men ✨ uh. beefy, vulnerable and/or yearning, apparently! 😅

A large ocean wave is about to overtake a bedraggled man in a weathered rowboat. He looks distressed about this, knowing he's not going to be able to get clear of the wave in time.

A mermaid possessively embraces a man she's pulled under water in a pond; he doesn't appear to be struggling against her very much.

A man in a cloak and tabard sits on rock by the ocean, looking longingly out in the distance as waves crash around him.

We peer through ornate curtains at a king kneeling before a man in armor who stands before him. The king gazes up at the knight and is in the process of shrugging out of his ornate robes, which trail behind him. The knight cradles the king's face in one hand, and the king has a hand on the knight's armored leg.

This seems appropriate here.

Art of a moose skull with antlers, with plant buds sprouting off the ends of the antlers, and the text "may your new year be fertilised by the bones of those who would wish you harm".

The artists mark/signature is in the bottom left corner.

It's okay to cut people out. Cut out the friend who says hurtful things as "jokes". Cut out the judgmental person who makes you feel bad. Cut out people who don't care about your needs. Cut out the people who don't show up for you, but to use you. It's your peace. Your life. Protect it.

top text reads: "there are actually 3 wolves inside you~"
1st wolf text: "you should be working"
2nd wolf text: "you should be resting"
3rd wolf text: "your OCs should be bangin'"
an exhausted person is collapsed on the floor below everything
