Whether it's Kai Trump spending $230 on a smoothie and some bottled water at an Erewhon in Santa Monica or Kat Abughazaleh spending 12 bucks on fried shrimp at a Culver's in Chicago, young women on both sides of the aisle are making extravagant purchases.

I had to miss for a team dinner! But I hope it was a good time. Luckily RustConf is near me in Montreal this year.

Lol, I had the biggest brain fart with this. My first emotion was “damn, wish I lived in SF for this.” Then I remembered… I’m in SF for work right now. 🤦‍♂️ I’m so used to seeing these events I can’t go to that it was my instinctual reaction.

Yes, for SvelteKit apps + Rust services I define a root PNPM and Cargo Workspace. Every “app” gets a root directory. Then there is a root “packages” and “crates” where I store TS and Rust libraries.

The other thing is some terminals want you to highlight text, then CMD+C. Some copy just when you highlight. But I understand the historical context there.

Thomas Eckert @thomaseckert.dev · 04/06/2026
When I paste text that I've copied from the terminal, it will often have surprise spacing (sometimes control characters). This can be sorted more easily for prose, but for login links it can be problematic. Claude Code has a nice feature "C to copy the URL".

Gambling has been added as a feature into so many apps that GitHub is getting on board. I get to gamble at whether or not my PR actually includes the changes I made.

Someone actually did a study a while back that showed the most effective way to get women out of TERF groups wasn’t people trying to change their minds, it was them getting literally any benign hobby, like learning other languages or taking up needlework

I used Claude to research the availability of a certain gouache paint. It was very helpful. I found a shop that might stock it. It was like “Would you like me to craft an email?” No, I will write an email to the owner. I can ask a fellow human a question.

The submission review page is getting some polish! I haven't decided between "star" reviews and "yes/no/maybe". Any preferences out there?
Screenshot of the Galley literary journal CMS submission review interface. The submission is titled "Three Poems: Bilingual Identity" by Nadia Kowalski (nadia@writer.test), submitted February 10 with 1 file and 89 words. The left panel shows a file preview of "field-guide-to-leaving.docx" with partial poem text visible, a "Download originals" button, and an activity log showing the submission was received February 10, assigned to reviewer Sarah Kim on February 11, and reviewed with 3 stars on February 12. The right sidebar contains a "Your Review" section with a 5-star rating input and notes textarea with a "Submit Review" button, a "Status" section showing the current status as "In Review" with buttons for Shortlisted, Accepted, Rejected, and Received, and a "Reviews" section showing a 4-star review by Sarah Kim with the note: "The bilingual texture works beautifully. 'Don't lock it / You're not that kind of gone' is a killer closing. This poet has something." The average review score shown is 4.0.
